Is there a point to the eternal realm? Any character you enjoy during a season just gets shifted there and all the builds you liked for it are gone?

No, because your char is already leveled.
If anything the season is for casuals that need the season theme buff to get anything done.

Have you played s2? The seasonal mechanics barely effect your characters overall power.

Different strokes for different folks. Some people don’t like the idea of a seasonal realm where all their hard work is essentially thrown away at the end of a season. They prefer to continue on their eternal character and have fun that way.
I prefer the seasonal realm myself, but I get where they’re coming from.

Different people want to play different ways. Seasons is not for everyone. You can just ignore it and delete your character at the end of each season if it bothers you so much.

TBH its only for casuals who dont want to relevel.
I personally use it as a testing ground to see the impacts of seasonal effects and or other pieces of the game that are changed outside of seasonal changes.
All the new buffs to the leveling process really feel like the seasonal realm is more casual.
But I digress, to be as clear as I possibly can be with what I’m saying:
If I make a seasonal character that I’m enjoying, there’s a shelf life on it. As soon as the season ends that character’s build that I had fun playing is gone. I have multiple max level characters and I’m looking at my character select screen, I have a bunch of S1 characters that are not the same as the ones I was having fun playing. I don’t care about casuals having fun, and I’m not suggesting anything to negatively impact them.
But has anyone here logged on to the eternal realm? It’s a ghost town. There “casual player” that doesn’t want to play seasonal is almost a fictional person.

I only play eternal because I can’t stand the idea of “borrowed powers”. The permanent realm is the “real” realm to me. Seasons are just gimmick testing grounds with borrowed powers. Not to mention Eternal is slightly more challenging and I like that.

I removed all my blood pacts and nothing much has changed in my damage. I still destroy everything just as quick. Theres nothing even close the barber in S1. S2 mechanics minimal to no impact to most builds.

The point is for people who don’t want to play seasonal. Once the season ends your character is done with that season and the borrowed power that comes with it. There are builds that don’t rely on seasonal mechanics you can make if you still want to play with that character or start a new journey.
Some people play on it exclusively and the alternative would be just deleting your character when the season ends. Some just go put the gold and best gear in the eternal stash, others knowing they’ll never play eternal just delete without dealing with that and make a new one.
It’s kinda weird asking why an optional realm exists tbh. Do you think resources are being wasted on it or something?
In D2 yes because some people dont want to start the leveling grind and there are no borrowed seasonal gimmicks people get gear and builds for.
In D4 there is no real purpose because leveling to 100 is ridiculously fast now.
