I play an Eternal Realm character during pre-season to get a feel for the game and the class. I have all alters and full map clear with campaign completed. However, I plan on playing hardcore for the seasons moving forward. It was no clear from the dev stream whether my progress from the Eternal Realm character will propegate to a new hardcore season 1 character when the patch goes live. I’m asking because if it doesn’t, I want to at least grab all alters and full map clear on a hardcore character before the season goes live, so I don’t have to do that during the season. Anyone know the answer to this or better yet, can point me to where blizzard has clarified this? Thanks in advance.
You will need to log in with an ethereal hc char with everything unlocked after the season 1 patch, and then the game will copy the progress from that character to the seasonal realm.
Given that HC players can’t log in with dead characters to share progress with their season characters, it’s unlikely your non-HC characters (that made all that progress at no risk) will be able to do so.
This was my assumption as well, since that’s how things are currently. But in the dev stream, all Blizzard said was you need to log in with one character after the 18th to get the progress. They made no distinction whatsoever between eternal realm characters and hardcore characters. Moreover, these discussions around hardcore characters dying seem to be focused on players who play hardcore exclusively, which is not the case with me. So are you guys saying all this based on something Blizzard has said or are you just assuming it will be like that? This is why I asked if anyone is able to point me to something specific that Blizzard has said.
Sure, and due to the lack of mention of HC, there are lots of questions on the HC forums about how it will work.
That said, how fair do you think it will be that you can carry over your SC progress, gained at no risk, to HC seasons (and presumably when the season ends carry it back into regular HC) when HC only players will not be able to do so if they lost their character?
Though I agree that it wouldn’t be fair exactly, I don’t think that’s part of Blizzards calculus when implementing these types of things. Besides, the flip side is, given how clunky the implementation is, I can see them “letting” eternal realm progress carry over to hardcore precisely because hardcore only players who lost characters would not otherwise be able to get the renown. After all, it is much easier to collect alters and clear map on softcore than hardcore, as was pointed out.
Eternal and Hardcore are already separate. Expect that to continue into seasons. Alters gained in SC don’t currently effect your HC chars and Alters gained in HC don’t carry over to your eternal chars. Stash, gold, crafting mats, etc are also separate currently.
