For those that mainly play or only play eternal, why? What is the appeal for you?
Is the realm completely dead at WT4? Are world bosses pretty much a no go, unless you can solo?
I come from a mostly MMO back ground, so I’m still not a fan of the re-roll every season gameplay. However, I do like to pregress the pass enough for cosmetics and to finish the seasonal story. So I plan on having a min/max out character for each class on a eternal, and just picking one to re-roll for the seasonal story/comsetics. Once that’s over I’ll go back to my eternal character. I wouldn’t really care about getting the seasonal character to 100.
I’d just like to know that there are at least people playing. Even just to know they are around and it’s not just a big void. Also…any eternal guilds recruiting? (is this even a thing?)
There are many valid reason to play eternal.
Dont have to worry about gold as you are probably rich.
Dont have to worry about souls as you probably have alot.
Dont have seasonal powers so more challenging.
Dont have as much time and dont want to start over each season.
Sometimes seasons are a big miss. You are not missing much on S3 for example.
You have friends that only play on eternal.

I have thought about this.
I would think that blizzard would want to utilize BOTH environments.
Why not create a symbiotic relationship between the two realms so they feed one another in some form or another.
Do this on the seasonal realm to affect that on the eternal realm.
Do this on the eternal realm to affect that on the seasonal realm.
I can think of many ways to make that type of relationship between the two realms extremely fun for players.
Blizz could also make it an opt in/opt out thing for the cry babies.
But things like this take inspiration and imagination, passion, motivation and drive to accomplish…

Because seasonal play is temporary. If you end up liking a season or mechanics from it, well too bad. It’s only there for a few months, and if you are lucky, you might see some aspect of it show up in the future.
I would rather play with my one character that I chose at the beginning, and upgrade them continually. I dislike continually remaking characters, and usually only end up with 1 of each class in a game, and a couple of my favorite ones on different game modes.
Overall, seasonal play is garbage content for the most part that adds nothing to the game other than a temporary bandaid to cover other issues, a distraction.

Seasons are not for all. I personaly mostly play on eternal becouse of less powercreep. I like to change builds, beat Lilith and nmd 100, then repeat this loop. Seasons I’am using mostly to exp my new characters for eternal.
The only reason I like seasons…is for the story addons and cosmetics. Once that’s done…I usually hang it up. I figure if I’m gonna farm uber uniques…I’d much rather do that when I know they are permanent. That’s just my opinion though.

I would rather they add actual content to the game, rather than temporary content.

This exact topic keeps popping up every now and then. If you do a quick forum search you’ll find various answers from all sorts of players, past and present.

I have already suggested this a few times:
The Eternal and Seasonal realms should be merged. There are only benefits for doing so, and it’s possible to do it in a way which satisfies everyone. Also merging the realms would improve the long term health of this game. From a technical standpoint it’s probably a lot of work (especially the planning), but it’s doable and totally worth it.
It wouldn’t hard at all. Just starting next season, only have eternal realm.
I however don’t mind that it’s separated for those that want to chase that type of gameplay.
I just wish they also implemented things for eternal players. More long term goals. Leaderboards for achieves, kills, completions. Armory (similar to wow) where your character could be displayed online.
I just don’t have a wt4 character on eternal. So I’m hoping the realm isn’t completely dead at wt4.

Perfecting builds on a character from a previous season is another reason. I main Rogue but want to try a another class on season 4. Not going to neglect my Rogues just Because they are Eternal. With itemization changes its the perfect time to farm mats, gold for the changes.

Nope. Still have huge groups of level 100 people show up to obliterate the world boss in seconds.
And personally, I play around with eternal realm after I’m done with the seasonal stuff. Great way to try out new baseline character ideas, especially since I have a ton of gear, resources, and gold.

I’m happy to hear it’s not dead at wt4. So I won’t be lonely lol.

It’s nowhere near as crowded as seasonal, but there’s still a few people at the usual locations. Parked at the occultist doing rerolls, running to the smith to break gear, waiting outside Durial cave for runs, etc.
Not dead at all. All players that have a bunch of Uber Uniques from the initial Duriel grind can now try freely different builds since a lot of mats available for reroll/perfect aspects/ good rares/Uber bosses mats.
Seasonal for me is just to play temporarily and get all the challenges/cosmetics sorted, then I go back to Eternal and wait eagerly for chars from Seasons to come back into the fold so I can transfer items back and forth. For example, I’m looking forward to my Druid and Necro coming into Eternal so I can equip them with the nice Uber uniques that I already have and that I won’t bother grinding for in S3 again.

They did that. Renown transferred from Eternal to seasonal as did completing the campaign. Then new items and skill adjustments affect both realms. Finally seasonal content like malignant heart (rings) and vampiric powers (aspects) come to Eternal. Eternal is the core game. Seasonal is sort of the test realm and provides a fresh start every 3 months for the blasters.

Actually, what is the appeal of doing the same thing, over and over again? What is the appeal of Levelling again. Farming hell tides, again. Levelling glyphs, again.
Also, the game wants you to invest in characters buying outfits and so on. This doesn’t mean much of I will dump this character in 3 month.
I played season 2 and 3, but I most definitely won’t play most seasons. I also would not play much eternal realm either.

Stayed in eternal since launch with a Werenado druid all the way through almost end of S2. Was basically min-maxing and doing Duriel runs. Collected a set of equipment for offense and a set of equipment for defense. Still could not beat uber-lilith lol. But this was before I tried any seasonal character.
I would be cool if for the last week of any season, players could bring one eternal character into the seasonal realm for fun
I don´t see a single reason or advantage in playing Eternal.
In fact I delete some chars from past seasons.
By the way, did a season to get the town portal skin, look at gauntlet (that would certainly be on Eternal also) and get Malphas head to my horse.
Relevel Glyphs? No, sorry… Now back to Eternal to farm the new aspects and do crazy tests!
