Sorry if this is a nub question but I don’t play eternal. I didn’t know eternal player doesn’t get access to the battle pass ? So they can’t even buy it on eternal even if they wanted to ???
I would think blizzard would make more money if they put battle pass in eternal too no ?
It’s essentially doubling the workload for the developers. Seasonal server has certain milestone progression. Eternal don’t have anything like that. Everything already there. IT’s an autocomplete Battle Pass.
There are no milestones other than leveling for the Battle pass.
You are thinking about season journey. The journey does reward favor for the battle pass. But the season journey is not required for the battle pass to function; just level and kill monsters. Nor is the battlepass ever a requirement for the season journey.
The biggest difficulty would be making sure the Ashes Blessings apply general boost that eternal could use and not just seasonal things. (its mostly general boost and non seasonal).
Typically I complete the entire BP track before I am even 3/4th the way through the season journey (like 8 hours). The BP is short, the journey can be a bit of a grind.
An ‘eternal player’ could seriously play the season for about 8 hours and get everything on the BP and then go back to Eternal.
A lot of the milestones from the Journey adds points toward the battle pass. Blizzard has to custom make a battle pass specifically for Eternal Realm. Even then the workload isn’t worth the effort since not enough people would pay for Eternal battle pass. The bigger issue is should the battle pass rotate out each season or should it just stay there forever allowing players to pick which battle pass to work toward.
Incorrect. The BP does not depend on the Journey. Any player, including ‘Eternal Player,’ can right now:
log in
create a seasonal character
buy all the battle pass tiers with platinum.
They would get everything in the BP without killing a monster, leveling, or completing any part of the season journey. Then go right back to Eternal. The BP does not depend on the Journey. You dont even have to play the game to get everything in the Battlepass.
Blizzard could currently remove the Season Journey and the Battlepass would continue to function as is.
While the season journey does award favor towards the BP, the BP can completed simply by killing monsters. Leveling is required solely for the Ashes. Not a single part of the journey is required for the battle pass. The journey awarded favor speeds the battle pass up, but its already super quick.
S5 ash blessings would all work for eternal except for the Iron Wolves rep. Again the only thing that would have to be different for Eternal is the Ash Blessings.
Like I said, blizzard has to custom made a different battle pass for Eternal Realm so players can interact with it. Instead of just a progress bar that fills when killing monsters. Because that’s not exciting enough plus killing monsters get dull very fast.
It’ll never happen because they have a metric for seasonal engagement. The battle pass, season journey, and season theme are their only leverage to drive people into seasonal play. They will never give those to eternal realm.
They would also have to change how you get them, because they currently prevent P2W by making the level req higher than the favor req for ashes. That wouldn’t work in eternal.
I would vote for them just getting rid of the ashes system in general, its fairly pointless.
You complete the BP in like 8 hours and have all the ashes. What order you claim the blessing is irrelevant mostly. They just need to make a more meaningful system, or a more generalized on rails one, no matter if the BP was season only or included Eternal.
Blizzard would make more money if they enabled the battle pass for Eternal. Like those have previously said, you can complete the battle-pass without doing the season journey. And giving Eternal players the option to buy it (and even buy tiers) would just mean more money for Blizzard. Other seasonal games give the battle pass to non-seasonal players too.
Blizzard has metrics for Eternal play too. And more important than the “season engagement” metric is the “battle-pass sales metric”. The only reason a seasonal engagement metric exists is to make more sales. If you can get even 10%-20% more sales from releasing the battle-pass on Eternal, then why wouldn’t you do it?
Well, we have no idea how much they could get because we don’t have numbers on eternal vs seasonal play. To maximize its value, they would have to design a meaningful free battle pass that gave players an incentive to pursue it and to keep coming back to see what they’ve unlocked, therefore giving them many chances to consider buying the premium one. That system would have work differently than the ashes currently do, or it would be P2W, which would have a lot of downsides for them as a company and is also something the team clearly doesn’t want.
If they could get 20% more battle pass sales, and assuming battle pass sales are decent revenue, then I think they would do it. But is it 20% or is it 2% or .2%? I have no idea.
Id love it if they added BP to eternal just to see the reaction from seasonal players when they realize that resets and leaderboards arent as popular as they think they are.
I don’t think seasonal players would care if they added BP to eternal. But did it every occur to you that blizzard actually have metrics and if eternal was truly more popular they wouldn’t already have tried to capitalize on it?
It’s common practice in online multiplayer games to architect a lot of things via peer to peer with the server simply acting as a hub to all them to connect to each other. Blizzard seems to have a hybrid approach with some stuff on the server and some peer to peer.
My guess is the inventory is peer to peer with periodic syncs to the server. So when you go into town your inventory is sent via this peer to peer connection to other players. This takes load off the server so everyone in a zone isn’t constantly hammering the server for inventory requests for everyone else.
You say it like it was some stupid idea they had but it’s literally the industry standard for online games. Every wonder how map hacks work when cheaters can lift the fog of war to reveal everyone’s positions? It’s because they send all that info peer to peer.
They may be working on a change for it but to change the architecture for how this works takes a lot of time and effort. The bottom line here is regardless of how they actually do it, your ignorance to how these things work is not proof of blizzards lack of metrics.
Yes. Access to battle pass would both please eternal players and increase profits. It should also just last for the season so people have reason to buy the next one.
