Just had this spark of an idea and I’m sure others have had it. I think it sort of exists in D2(but I never really played that).
Depths of Hell.
A dungeon that you start and it’s kind of easy and you clear the level and when you clear it you go ‘down’ a level and it gets harder and harder as you descend. But if you die you have to start over. And if you leave you have to start over. They could have no affixes at first and slowly add them. Maybe they are random and they stay as you go further. So one run you might get unlucky one early. Or another you might be almost at your PB depth and get a bad affix.
I could see that working well with leaderboards. But also working well to test end game builds. “I got to depth 69 with this build”. Maybe even have doing t100 nm dungeon as a requirement for unlocking this activity. And maybe the difficulty starts at about t50 difficulty level or something like that. So it’s not super easy. Still need a competent build to get anywhere.
Just an idea. I feel like it fits well within the Diablo world too. Diablo 2 has something similar but I’m not sure exactly how that worked.
If you have any ideas to bounce off this feel free to discuss them. I think giving the devs ideas is a lot more helpful than just saying everything you think they have done wrong.

This is just the nightmare dungeon system with new make up.
I had an idea that I can only call Zone Take overs. Pick a zone on the map that gets sieged by demons and taken over turning the zone basically into a giant stronghold that could have multiple tiers of bosses you have to progress through. This would only really work if the zone could be instanced for people so everyone could do it at will like a dungeon. Maybe during a take over the zone gets gated into an instance. You cant just ride through it. If the zone is up for an hour or so there could be a meter for liberating the zone that fills up as players do it. If the meter is filled and the zone is liberated dungeons and loot could be boosted for the zone for some period afterwards. I just always thought in preseason that Strongholds were the most thoughtful content but they are small fry and there is something there that can be leveraged for better world content.

Not exactly. If you could run NMs in sequence pushing your power and the mob power and potentially put an exponential XP modifier on the glyph XP or loot probability. But if you break the run it resets. It would make running NMs over and over more fun probably.

“You start at Tier 1 and progress through dropped Nightmare sigils as you progress up they get harder and harder”
Sigils have random affixes.
Season 3 was confirmed to bring the leaderboard system into the game.
So complete a T100 to do T50 content… For some reason.
Its just nightmare dungeons with new make up.

Never said it was a bad idea. Just said it was just Sigils with new makeup. Its like rearranging your living room by moving the couch to the other wall.
Its still the same furniture and room. Nothing really is different.

I envisioned it differently. When affixes get added they stick with you until the end of your run. So you might end up with like 10 affixes by the time you are done. Sure the first few levels would be slightly easier but maybe they would scale significantly faster than nm dungeons do. And nm dungeons don’t take much time to complete. So you would most likely progress fast. The point being to test builds. Start off with something that you should be able to do. And scale super hard to be something that pushes the limits. And only 1 life. If you die it starts over. It’s like nm dungeons but tweaked to be harder and also have a sort of record system. And that was part of the idea. We don’t know what activity they are going to add for leaderboards. This was just something I thought might work well for that purpose.
Maybe every 25 levels you go down there is some sort of harder and harder boss. And maybe you get rewards from those ‘checkpoints’. So you could kill the boss then a stash opens in that room so you can deposit the loot. And continue. Cause doing these for the loot really wouldn’t be the purpose. You do it more for the pushing of the limits of your build.
Just ideas.
I think its more like getting a better couch and a bigger TV. Technically the same but better.
It would be cool if there were bosses that could only be accessed at certain levels too. They were no where else in the game but in level 25 of the Greater Nightmare scheme for example.
Oh also what if they had secondary synergy skills that builds could use to support running these as a group with strategy?

I’d rather something more unique.
Something along the lines of a massive 40 player tournament where you fight monsters underground, group up with 4 players or go solo. The longer the match goes on the harder monsters become. More monsters, harder affixes, etc. all the way up to the grand prix of fighting all 5 uber bosses in the same room.
Winner gets insanely good loot.
the remainder gets forgotten souls/mats for each rank in the top 5 you get.
Can have a pvp version.
hardcore players wont lose their characters if the participate.
Something like delve in Poe would be cool

Ya, a mix of delve and sanctum could be neat.
-Infinitely generating dungeon that gets harder and harder as you go
-mini-events replaced by ‘shrines’ that give a buff/debuff that lasts the entire dungeon
-chests give option for small immediate reward, or forgo for a larger reward after floor boss defeated
-optional exit point every so often, only keep what you bring out alive.
I know a major pain point for these types of activities is simply committing to doing them because they can lock you into doing 1 activity for a while. Being able to pause progress and start it up again later should be worked in someway, imo.

At this point just hire real actors & shoot green screen. Days of FMV are ovah.
Yeah all of what you said seems good. I had delve in mind when thinking about this. I never played sanctum so not sure how that mechanic works.
It’s like delve but don’t need a resource to keep going deeper. And it’s more about doing it all in one go. Optional exits after the bosses would be good. But being able to start lower would have to be implemented correctly imo. Maybe there would be a way to make it so far that anytime you start you can start deeper or something. Not sure. Lol.
