Elias capstone vs. Hardcore characters

I’m curious but without doing any research prior to the fight how would any hardcore character not die here?

It seems like bad design to have the sudden jump in difficulty without any ability to back out.

Was the assumption that everyone who plays hardcore just metagames this?

Can you not make the not-really-hardcore-free-life potion or what?

I know I’m just a low Eternal player, but I cleared Elias at 68 first attempt. If you can get to him, the dungeon itself is harder than the boss fight.

I think it depends on build a lot wether the fight is easier or harder than the dungeon, that’s one aspect. Plus the boss fight is more “typical game boss” like there’s mechanics you need to know that make or break the encounter

I only say what I did because I died over a dozen times trying to clear the dungeon 62-67 because of the cannibals. Being on Eternal realm, I imagine I don’t take the care HC players do. Dying over and over, I changed up my paragon and gems. Elias ended up being easier than taking on a group of elites/champions. And I use a Pulverize/Earth skill build, more geared for groups than single target.

Are there mechanics for him different than campaign? I actually thought campaign was harder, because you fight him multiple times. I was expecting him to res again.

PS - You’re right about build and likely class. I don’t know what class you’re attempting on.

That’s what the recommended level is for, I’d be amazed if someone actually struggled with Elias at 70.
Everyone I know did it at 60 or earlier easily.

Not true. I cleared the dungeon at 61. Took till 67 to clear Elias on Frost Sorc.

Did you try it before 68?

I mentioned class…I was on druid. I haven’t played anything else.\

I tried for 62 - 68. I was getting wrecked by the cannibals. Could clear the right side, left side would one shot me.

The Cannibals have a few one shots they may seem harder on a melee character.
I honestly beat them by positioning around pillars so they could not one shot me.
Then AOE damage.
So yeah I guess class difference.

With Elias I just did not have enough ST damage to beat him before 67.

Yeah, I’m pulverize build, so even with the ranged affix to get spirit when ultimate I had to get in close, and they would one shot me. Once I died a bunch, gained a bunch of paragon, and fixed that paragon, I cleared it, with Elias being the least of my worries. At that point I was face tanking him.

I did it at 56. With a lowly squishy Sorc to boot. No deaths.

I played Druid too, and it was really tough for me. I did it about level 65. Leveling Druid was a dumpster fire. Not sure if it’s better now.

I beat it my first time on my hardcore rogue with a poison trap build without researching the fight at all. Level 68.

Killed him as 58 firewall sorc. The dungeon was indeed harder than Elias.

Like anyone is gonna watch that, just lol. Lvl68…I did it at lvl56 in one go.

Haters gotta hate!!!

well i bring my scrolls of escape and press the bind if it gets too hectic.

i start trying around 65 and escape if its too much then try again next level.

if you do it at 60 it’s gonna be a real challenge. if you do it at 70 its gonna be easy. up to you to test and decide when it’s right for your current char.

I think it’s implied that hardcore players are generally going to be more cautious, yeah. In this case it’s also the dungeon that unlocks T4, so it makes sense to me at least that the dungeon would attempt to be a preview of what to expect when moving up.

I struggled through both the dungeon and Elias as a summon necro. The dungeon was slow but not too bad, then I proceeded to die to Elias for about an hour before I finally beat him after 21 attempts. Needless to say, hardcore definitely is not for me lol

you have cheat death potions and scrolls of escape
