Duriel was the act II boss in Diablo II.
For those unfamiliar with the fight: you were dropped in a small room, a cave. Duriel was straight on top of you. He had holy freeze, like a paladin. A stun with knockback ability, he’s fast and strong.
This resulted in a fight were you were severly disadvantaged and had no place to hide.
It was a bit like: stun, stun, slowed, dying, slowed, desperately trying to do some damage, townportal to get new potions, then again.
I found it always an exciting fight.
I read Duriel will be about poisonresist. This already gives the impression they totally didn’t look at what made Duriel such a formidable foe.
I really hope they capture the fight as it was in D2. It would be epic to relive that in higher resolution and with better voicing.
Others with the same feeling? Or you got no problem that they redo a boss?
hmm i get what you mean, the d2 duriel had a fun touch to it, especially since it was such a small cave and that thing hit like a truck during leveling.
I dont mind the new duriel either tho. i think he came off a little too short in the campaign, so i hope he offers a better fight now in the uber version.
The first time I did Duriel was a nightmare because I was playing a minion druid and he destroys minions.
Every time besides that has been a complete faceroll. TBH Meph and Diablo are more threatening (and Baal’s minions, but not Baal lol). Hell, trav bosses are more dangerous.
i had to deal with long load times back then due to seriously bad hardware. maybe i felt the fight was harder cause when i entered the cave, i already got hit like 4 times xD
I do not like it being changed. Memories of losing to him… why change it?
I mean when I went back in d2r, and I beat him on sorc, but back in the day, he wasted my first sorc. I never got her back. Of course, we played offline so didn’t know what to do.
Anyway, my point is, Duriel should still be freeze. WTF on changing him???
About the new fight against poison duriel, I will wait and see to give an opinion.
However, one thing I would like to see on him was that truly aggressive behaviour. Even though we are warned that something might be in Tal Rasha’s tomb, his posture is very surprising and intimidating in D2, like the screen is loaded and he is already coming to kill you, no talks, no presentation, no escape. Near a D1 Butcher experience.
This summed up with the fact that in your first time ever fighting him is often a reality check that you are not strong enough (he is far stronger than previous content), gives a genuine feeling of danger and the posture of the player step back from I am fighting to I am been hunted by a lord of hell and trying to survive.
Specially the part of no presentation, I think D4 could use this a little more in bosses, real bosses in unexpected places and fights without introduction.
haha yea i know ^^ it really is just what the lore states.
Duriel is the twin of Andariel. I believe that they conspired together to assist Diablo in releasing Mephisto and Baal, though they had both supported the Lesser Evils in the past.
maybe the poison suits him even better eventually, considering hes the lord of pain. Who knows. for nostalgia, id have prefered him to be freezing too ^^
Thanks for that. My memory is of him freezing my first cold sorc way back… and I couldn’t get her back! This was offline back then. So I lost my first sorc to him, so I remember and ever since, I make sure to take care of his cold as*, lol.
Duriel was probably the worst fight in D2 and it seems when nostalgia rots your brain you think that being constantly stunned and frozen makes it an “exciting fight”.
This game isn’t a d2 remake. It is alright if they alter him in some ways. Especially with being chain “frozen” by enemies has been one of the more hated experiences in this game.
I can understand nostalgia in this case, I love D2 as much as another older gamer. But duriel was just gear check when you have to facetank him or cheese him with minion/thorn etc.
Its good they don´t jus copy it (i really like him in campaing same andariel). It would be super lame.
Duriel was a fun fight, but it doesn’t need to be the same in this. They are changing everything about the world, heck they made Andariel into a weird flying mummy.
