Dungeons - what are they?

It seems that these “dungeons” are just one of three things.

Go find the key from somewhere.
Kill all the mobs.
Bring the device to the middle, activate, go forward.

Is that it?

That isn’t really a dungeon. It’s just an arbitrarily gated area with like no mob density. I’ve done maybe 30 of them and I am already exhausted of them just from the beta.

Will there be more to it, or is… this it?

150 dungeons by the way. Except 110 of them are “Icy Cellar” and the 40 other “dungeons” are just an area with nonsense and nothing interesting, no mechanics, and nothing special.

Yeah the dungeons have objectives you have to complete to progress further through them to get to the boss chamber.

Compared to D3 they aren’t very good for farming loot. Mob density is too low as you mentioned, but I’ve also had interesting moments when 2 side quests were active in the same dungeon so you have extra mobs/elites because of the quests. The Black Asylum was a dungeon like that.

Also, there’s no point in doing all the dungeons as the completion reward is a class specific perk. Might as well just save the dungeon for when you are playing that class so it’s of some use to you.

Major disappointment.

Eh I have had kill x of this, find a couple of items, clear the mobs, collect souls I think, probably a couple of others. Basic dungeon stuff though yes. Hit levers when the traps go down there is another one. Action rpg dungeons have never been known for their creative mechanics, its is more about how difficult the monsters can get.

They should’ve made it like bounties in d3, Kill X amount of monsters, include events inside dungeons and not cellars, et cetera.

you do realize dungeons are just to farm the aspect right ? they are not end game grind zones. i really hope you realize that.

I very much like that dungeons can have different objectives. But yeah, way too low diversity.
Nor should all dungeons end in a boss fight.

I think to the OP’s point, though, that’s a stark detraction from previous Diablo titles where the dungeons were generally the grinding/loot farming areas.

Then why did they brag up about all their wonderful dungeons when all you do is go there once for some crummy power?

Seems like a huge waste.

And a huge disappointment.

The further away from D3 game design, the better… all 5 of you Diablo 3 fans need to leave!

Diablo 3 is one of the worst games ever made.

because end game is going to be something akin to POE. You can still run the dungeons for a change of pace. And higher tiers will give you more loot. But yeah once you do the dungeons and get your aspect that is it. What Blizzard was bragging about was the different aspects you can collect from all the dungeons. The ones unlocked for the beta may not have a lot of variety but in other zones they may have a different biome. For this beta we got all the ice caves because of the snow biome we are in.

Seems like dungeon are very much the endgame of D4. Hopefully not the only endgame, but a big chunk of it.

How is that NOT a dungeon? Have you never played a game with dungeons? Most of the time it’s go to the end and beat the boss.

I feel like y’all complain just to complain… does it arouse you or something?

Yeah but dungeons become Nightmare dungeons and operate like wows mythic affixes etc they said in their Q & A so what we see now is not the end finale, we will be running them huge amounts of times I imagine with some sort of keys like Grift keys to unlock harder versions I guess.

Who said I was a D3 fan? I’m just stating the facts. If we remove D3 from the equation, then you can say D2 dungeons were better (because we have to use some old @$$ video game as a reference for some reason).

No Diablo 3 bored me to tears in the long run, but it was entertaining initially. I got sick of playing it when it launched having to replay the same content 4 times to get to level 60 for ONE character. Don’t even get me started on the auction house.

No, it’s not a dungeon. It’s just an area with a small handful of mobs and a block in your way that you need to walk towards and open. It’s a joke.

So what you’re saying is, you’ve never been in a game that had a dungeon… gotcha.

Is the cow level a dungeon or a paddock?

Yes you are an embarrassment.

What do you imagine a dungeon is then? Because it’s clear you have no clue.

My opinion > your entire life.
