Hey all. I just bought Diablo IV on PC (thank you SO MUCH for bringing it to Steam!) on Tuesday and have been loving it on my Steam Deck - it’s been working almost flawlessly there (only issue is failing to reconnect to Blizzard servers after using the sleep/wake function, but that could be because of the frequent hotfixes over the last few days).
My main issue is on my desktop PC. On my 12700k/4090 build, I have been crashing on startup for hours. I’ll launch the game, see the Blizzard logo, and then it hard freezes. I’ve troubleshooted by changing displays, SSDs, HDR on/off, AutoHDR on/off, Gamebar on/off, Steam Overlay on/off, and a TON more. I was getting very frustrated.
Finally, I found the solution from an obscure Steam discussion post in the Bugs and Issues section on the Steam Forums. Someone said to delete or rename the dstorage.dll file to something else. I did so and BOOM - the issue is immediately fixed. I’m able to launch and exit the game normally 100% of the time.
I’m excited about the potential for Direct Storage but y’all… If I was a less technically inclined user I would have asked for a refund. Many of my friends are about to buy Diablo IV on Steam and I really don’t want them to get a terrible first impression like I nearly did here.
