Druid Storm's Companion Unique Bugged or...?

I’m currently playing as a storm druid and I just got the unique Storm's Companion whose unique bonus is:

Your wolf companions are infused with the power of the storm, dealing lightning damage and gaining the storm howl ability.

The wolves are now considered a storm/nature spell in my skill tree, but I was under the impression that when the wolves attack (the wolf passive) they could potentially proc all of the storm druid stuff since they now deal lightning damage, but they don’t seem to proc anything – even after I have procced them myself. For example when I get the the overcharged aspect to activate, when the wolves attack they don’t proc the aspect explosion. Does this seem intended and I am understanding incorrectly or is this a bug with the unique? I was under the impression that this unique would enhance the storm druid build but it’s pretty trash atm since it doesn’t really do anything except give the storm howl ability passively which is alright for bosses/single target I guess.

Seems like it would be a nice addition. Too bad all the companions are trash.
As to your question, it’s early and it’s a toss up. 50% chance bug, 50% chance it’s not supposed to work. Who knows…

I hope it’s a bug and gets fixed. Otherwise the unique is pretty useless. I’m sad I salvaged my prior legs when I got these ones because I was so hyped that they dropped lmao

I’m 99. I decided to throw on storms companion and just test it out in the open world. I figured if it was worth anything maybe I’d try some kind of wolf related build for fun.

The wolves couldn’t even kill a couple quillboars that I could basic attack in a single hit… As much as I’d like to try some kind of companion build, it just seems completely pointless based off of that alone for me.

Regarding storm howl specifically… half of the storm skills on on the druid tree deal physical damage and not lightning damage. None of these skills will trigger anything based of electric damage: Cyclone Armor, Hurricane, and Tornado.
Basically only storm strike, lightning storm, and cataclysm deal electricity damage. Since a howl sounds like a wind oriented skill, it probably does physical damage rather than electric.

It’s my understanding that the wolves passive/active damage will be lightning but they will periodically use the howl to summon a storm that does physical damage.

If anyone tests this further look to see if when they howl if lightning strikes all on its own. (and take off any lightning passives when you do this)

Its possible storm howl will run physical and lightning but it needs more testing.

I stopped usiing this unique, but to my knowledge what I was seeing was the opposite. Storm Howl passive was doing lightning damage and I believe proccing overcharged when it was active. The auto attack passive from the wolves seemed like it was physical damage. I feel like if the wolves passive was lightning damage then they should be proccing things like overcharged or runeworkers conduit (but I could be wrong there)

Storm Druid is kind of weird in that a lot of the storm damage is still physical instead of electricity. Cyclone Armor, and Hurricane are both physical damage… so is the ranged basic attack whatever it’s called.

I think storm druid would feel better as a whole if it all did the same type of damage. As for Storm’s Companion… it seems like it would be hard to make a good build that uses it since there are a lot of aspects that buff companions and without them the companions are weak, but with them you probably need to be using more than 1 of the available companions… and then you can’t fit the necessary storm aspects.

I haven’t played my druid much since I hit 100, but I might roll druid again for S1 and if I do I’ll probably work more towards a storm focused build and see how far I can take it rather than the nature’s fury build that I have now.
