There must be a bug with Diablo 4. When i was downloading content at the Weekend my CPU Temps went up to 100 degrees. When i pause the download it drops instant to 50 degrees and when i start it again it is at 100 degrees within a few seconds again.
Platform is X670E with 7950x3d all new Drivers and bios. Happens only in Diablo 4.
This is on other platforms too. Is there a workarround? At this temps it can burn your system.
The battle.net app is certainly not the cause of the high temperatures.
Check the correct installation of the CPU cooler.
Then use Prime 95 to heat up the CPU. Check the temperatures with HW Info.
AMD recommends water cooling for the Ryzen 7950x3d. The maximum permanent operating temperature of the CPU should not exceed 89°C.

Its all perfect, all fine… all the time, no matter what i play and for how long. I have a 400€ water cooling AIO from Nzxt, but when there is a download for diablo, things change and temps raise to its limit. only when i download diablo stuff, not while gaming it. Means: i start the launcher and only the launcher, then start a diablo download and temps explode. after downloading, all is fine again… its a bug for sure.

Your system should be able to handle a process using 100% of your CPU, so if your system is overheating, then there is an issue with your system.
This is like saying that if you drive too fast, your car overheats. If your car/computer system EVER overheats, then there is an issue with your cooling system.

I know this is a year old but I had the exact same issue.
Downloading an update for Diablo 4 and my CPU spikes to 85C and the fans are running flat out.
I ran Prime95 stress test and it maxed out at 64C with the fans at 30%.
It is definitely something to do with Diablo 4 and the downloader/update.
Running a 7800X3D on a 670E MB.

7800x3d here also and was updating D4 yesterday and notice CPU spiked to 85C instantly and back down to 40s as soon as the updater was paused.
I just ran into this overheating issue as well. My CPU (i9-13900K) was overheating at the end of today’s Diablo IV update.
Also just happened to me (7800x3d)
Just happened to me today (6/10/2024 GMT+9). Temps straight into the 80’s. Thought my AIO pump had failed, nope. Pause the download and immediately drops into the high 30’s. Running an i7-13700K, MSI Z790, MSI RTX 4080, with a Lian Li Galahad 360 AIO plus 10 other Lian Li SL120 case fans in an ASUS GT502 case. It’s insane. Nothing else does this, not even stress tests.
To clarify for the Blizzard support folks who won’t ever see this forum post, it only DIV, only when updating, and is a near-instant 55 degree C delta between idle (with Battle.net client open) and when downloading. There’s some bad code somewhere that’s exclusive to the DIV bit of the launcher/updater. Fix it.
Also happened to me just now, had an Update for Diablo IV, CPU temp went to 82°C (Ryzen 5800X, 240mm AIO PUSH/Pull), i’ve these Problems just with the Blizzard Launcher, and only if theres a Game Update/ Installation. When the Update is paused it went back to 40°C’ish temps.
Crazy- just happened to me reading this thread. Thought the same thing- my aio was failing. 7800x3d also- temps rocketed into the high 80s. Im on a hyte thicc aio- definitely some kind of issue on the app. multiple people reporting almost simultaneously?
You aren’t crazy, and it’s not “just your system being bad”
For whatever reason, updating Diablo 3 is causing my computer to DUNK on my CPU. 7800X3D with an AIO and it’s hitting 80-81C just to download stuff, if it wasn’t for this cooler being powerful I’d be worried.
The INSTANT the download stops, the CPU drops back down to proper temps.
Nothing else has ever made my CPU behave like this.
Just installed a 5700X3D a few days ago, logged into D4 to update it, noticed right after stress testing with Cinebench and hitting ~70, the cpu jumps up to ~80 when updating D4.
Crazy stuff, man. Cinebench should be much more stressful for the cpu than updating D4.
Same exact issue here! I can run ANY stress test out there or play any game and my temps are beautiful. The MOMENT that I start the update for Diablo IV, CPU shoots to 86 degrees instantly. Clearly they aren’t going to admin any fault on their part and keep saying it’s our PC’s. Laughable… your game is mid, anyway… button mashing nonsense that gets old pretty fast.

Yeah
I played on legion go and current season makes the cpu temp hotter than usual
Hi,
Same here i have a AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, and some D4 updates are doing some crazy things on the CPU. During the whole update my CPU is apparently at 85°C and the battle.net updater seems to use 70% of my CPU, but in any game or else CPU is between 40-60°C.
Hello,
I was just experiencing the same problem…
I was able to resolve it by deleting the cache folder.

This is the fix right here! Thanks!
