"Downloading Data"

I am getting the DOWNLOADING DATA screen every time I log in now.

Any of our intrepid data miners know what it is we (or at least me) are downloading? :grinning:

It means your connection is slow connecting to the servers. That’s literally it. It’s downloading data from the servers itself to connect your login account to the account on the server itself.

It happened right after the game forced a tiny update. One of those that takes no time to install and a few seconds of ā€œRecovering Spaceā€. I’ve had 3-4 of them in a day before this is the first time it borked the game for me though.

Edit: Started a scan and repair while I’m eating dinner. Hopefully that fixes the problem. And… nope, still broken. Someone’s going to have get on Xitter and yell at them to wake up the devs. They probably have no idea it’s borked. ā€œWow, the servers are running really smooth after that patch!ā€

Game is still broken with ā€œData Retrieval Errorā€ dialog. I take it most people aren’t seeing this problem or it would be a bigger thing on the forums. Guess that’s the end of Season 5 for me and the game as I’m definitely not paying for a game I can’t even play.

Solved? It seems to be related to the hires texture pack. I don’t play with it but uninstalling the game, installing with the texture pack then removing it (to get back to the game install I want) fixed the issue. So, yeah… my guess is Blizzard doesn’t test updates with and without the OPTIONAL texture pack.

It all starts with downloading ā€œdataā€. As soon as you see downloading ā€œplayerā€ you know the devil wants to get you. :smiling_imp:
