Can we get some word on whether damage over time effects from monsters are working correctly? A basic trash mob in a nightmare dungeon can put a DoT on an endgame character, with just one hit, that will do more damage over time than their entire health globe.
Wudijo seems to think this is a bug, and he probably has more contact with people at Blizzard than any of us. Should we assume this isn’t working as intended?
It’s working as intended. Been like that since the beta. Monster’s DoT damage can stack infinitely. This is appearent against spiders. Resistance doesn’t even reduce the DoT damage. That’s like asking for Armor to reduce Bleed damage. So there’s very little counter play against damage over time effects.
DoT from mobs is bugged, just avoid NM with modifiers “monsters do xx damage over time as poison/shadow…” - one single hit from a white mob can kill you.
if the direct damage hits my hp for 10%, and the bonus dot damage from nmd says 30%, it should now hit me 10% instantly and 3% additional damage over a period.
right now you get hti 10% instantly, then proceed to get your entire hp globe consumed within seconds unless you press a barrier / potion
You take 10% damage AFTER resistance and damage reduction is taken in affect. The DoT is base off the value before all the defensives. Go in there naked with full reset on skill tree and paragon board. See how much the DoT damage does.
There was and still is nothing ingame that makes me angrier than being doted on.
Whether in Everquest, WoW or any other game.
Behead me, stun me, backstab me, smite me or just knock me out.
No problem at all.
Grats, you won, good game, good player, thanks for the lesson, no hard feelings.
But when I’m being damage over timed, especially in pvp, by a real player who then runs away from me, maybe even snared me, I wish him away. And not just in the game.
I hate dots
But if you dot me, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you
I hope that’s not the way its intended to work… blocks almost all physical damage of an attack
"oh no! I got a hangnail while blocking! ITS BLEEDING! tell my family… I- "dies
I only ever see the big poison stuff when I’m hit by a ton of monsters, doesn’t that mean they just all add together?
I can’t say I’ve ever been in “poison is death” while fighting less than 3 enemies. Is this anecdotal and wrong or does anyone else experience the same when in NMDs?
actually your math is off. so basically think of it this way…and i realize what im about to say is going to sound absurd and it shouldnt work this way.
unequip all of your gear. let that mob hit you and see how much dmg it does with you having no armor or damage reduction.
that is the amount of damage the mob does.
now it does 30% of that amount of damage as the dot.
reduce that amount by whatever your resist is and that is the new number of what the dot does to you.
the amount of physical damage reduction we can stack due to armor and the various damage reductions far outweigh the resistance we can achieve. that is why the dot damage is so much higher
its not that it is bugged, it is just blizzard math
Mm… I kind of noticed that it feels a bit spicy, I’m playing t100 right now and a spider bite counting poison does more than a ballista shot does, taking some of those Damage over Time reduction points in the paragon board was worth it. Idk if it’s too high.
I guess it doesn’t bother me very much right now because the poison hasn’t felt that threatening compared to just getting mobbed, usually when I die it’s from standing in the middle of a big pack which is pretty dumb because the answer to what killed me is “I did, I’m dumb”
