It really doesn’t imply that. The grind is the endgame for a lot of ARPGs. Hell, that was the endgame for D2, and people still love it to this day.
Again, stuff like Uber Lilith and nightmare dungeons aren’t the only meaning of the term endgame. The grind itself is and has always been a key, if not the sole, component of Diablo “endgame.” Diablo 4 is lacking severely in this area.
For me, that’s endgame. Call it semantics but either way, D4 doesn’t even have that. Items are my personal endgame.
Not only am I done with items far too quickly in this game with no real chase items to go for, but you can’t reliably get items for alts meaning there truly is no reason to keep playing.
It’s not just this patch, it’s basically any patch in any game. You’ll get your doomers that will see some adjustment whether it’s justified or not and immediately throw some temper tantrum about how X or Y is now unplayable and about how the game is dead.
it’s actually not garbage at all, you’re just garbage at understanding it, there is a ton of flexibility, my favorite and best character is the one the community says can’t do damage yet, I’ve consistently put out more damage with it than any other class…
Idk about you but in Early D3 and Early Reaper of souls, POE, Grim dawn, Diablo 2, I wasn’t done gearing and building a character in 30-50 hours. This game I am. I’m comparing it to all of those and its only a very small fraction of the playtime due to the itemization and character building being as shallow as a tablespoon.
Nice assumption. Unfortunately, I’m already in near-perfect gear for my preferred class and spec and have been absolutely murdering NM dungeons and everything else in my path. I am having zero problems, but I also no longer have anywhere to go.
I understand it just fine. I simply find the game’s terrible itemization and balance to be abysmal. I find how they’ve set the grind up for this particular game to be drastically inferior to previous Diablo titles, as in to the extent that it’s just not even fun.
The absolute endgame is important for a specific albeit not insignificant demography, and it deserves special attention. That said, a very large player base isn’t in there.
I don’t ever see myself hitting 100. I will probably stop at around 60-70 before trying another class.
But what you also need to understand is that the people on there forums, by virtue of them being here, are people who take the game seriously, and they provide constructive feedback.
Even D3 managed to have a comparable level of enjoyment in the grind while simultaneously providing “proper” endgame activities. I’m hopeful D4 will eventually reach that point, but I won’t hold my breath.
You know, thinking about it, balance-considerations aside, maybe that’s why the endgame grind of D4 isn’t sitting right with me. The rewards range from a gimme to odds so low you will quite literally die of old age before ever seeing a drop.
