Doombringer, whats the hype?

Just got this off a duriel solo run. I understand its one of the uber uniques. But what is the hype though? i ma hota barb and wont be swinging with it anyways. I guess the 26% life bonus is decent, but rest of stats is pretty equal to what you can get on any 1hander. am i missing something?

Yes, you are missing the 26% flat damage and the 20% damage reduction. Beside the core skill damage, you can’t roll any of its stats on normal one-handed or two-handed weapon.

Hype is not real.

You are right.

Uber uniques suck. Doombringer dropped for me in last season and I couldn’t care less. I was able to clear NMD 100 without it and with it in basically same time, with same survivability. Nothing improved when I equipped it, and I was a Frenzy/DS Barb, using One-Handed weapons mostly.

I say nothing changed, obviously my health numbers went up, but if I didn’t hover my mouse over it, I wouldn’t notice because increase in health or DR didnt increase my survivability to the point where you can notice it without trying hard to notice it.

Go see what Rob did after first Shako dropped for him. He said “Oh, my stats didn’t increase that much” and when it dropped for Wudijo he made a video “is Shako overrarted” where he basically compared regular helm and uber unique shako and had to work hard to say Shako is slightly better. Your best item in the game, and people are almost choosing regular helm instead of it. So yeah, all uber uniques are overrated

+4 all skills is only “slightly better”? When I was doing AoZ I was stuck in T14. I then got a shako and noting else changed in my build. I ran through 15 and 16 back to back just on the power of adding shako alone. Not to mention the straight 20% damage reduction.

The items in this game don’t solve problems. They are just +damage or +defense thus no item feels very impactful. Items suck and the game sucks.

It caps at something like 41-44% max life at 5/5 upgrades which is absolutely bonkers, on top of great stats and a very powerful effect.

But will the effect proc if i dont swing the sword? i only use 1handers as stat sticks

Yes. D4 is different from 2 and 3 in that regard, any on-hit effects are applied to every attack.

The “hype” of Doombringer is the +41% bonus to Life.

If streamers threw Shako on for a second and went “my stats aren’t that much better” then they don’t have the mental capacity to understand the point. With the +4 all skills you can rework your entire skill tree. Investing a vast amount of points into passives/synergies without negatively affecting your damage. Depending on how you invest those extra skills you can increase damage, damage reduction, add additional effects to your attacks like stun (depending on the skill and weapons used), all while gaining a large amount of flat damage reduction and still having good affixes on the helm itself to work with.

This. Streamers/influencers entire job is to make people think a certain way. This leads to a lack of innovation and thinking outside the box. edit it also lets people think for them to the point where they are incapable of thinking for themselves.*

Putting on shako frees up like 20 skill points that can be invested into other stuff. Yes, while putting on shako and adding 4 points to skills may not jump stats on those skills due to diminishing returns, subtracting them after shako is on to boost other stuff will.

To be fair most Content Creators create nothing and are followers themselves. It’s just that with their popularity and inner circles they hear about things that are trending/meta first, then spam it out to the masses. That’s why they only play meta builds. A real Content Creator would come up with a totally out there build, or play something difficult, that potentially sucks, and with their creativity manage to turn it into something powerful and/or fun. That’s why they don’t truly understand builds or how to use Ubers to make them more effective.

I don’t get the excitement of most of the uniques or even uber uniques. A lot of this stuff makes me fall asleep it’s so boring.

The loot in this game does a terrible job at holding my interest at all. It’s more like a struggle trying to convince myself I care about jumping through hoops for this god awful loot.

Not to mention everyone swims in legendaries in this game so no loot feels special or unique, not even uniques.

Losing Aspects feels bad a lot of time. Losing some Uniques for UU is similar.

It’s like playing a roguelike and you have these powers you can chose from to start, but then you get kinda sorta better powers but it doesn’t feel much better. Then you get these niche powers that fit a certain playstyle if you invested in it so it’s kinda a waste to try to use it. Then you get some super crazy stuff but it’s also not ideal but you feel bad for not using it.

You don’t feel particularly excited for any power upgrade but you just feel like you have to roll with it. You sit there scratching your head thinking okay I did all this so far and got this thing and idk how to use it.

Upgrades in power should ideally feel meaningful and noticeably so. They should be exciting to get to drop and make your character vastly more powerful in some way.

I have had Doombringer for a while and it was not good for me. My build is around Corpse explosion and Lucky hit. Most of my gear has +Health and DR. Losing +15% lucky hit is not worth it. I have Andariel’s Visage and was reading someplace the it was great combined with Temerity. It seemed a bit silly but I tried it in a NM100. It didn’t go well.

Oooo… best item in the game you spent 150 hours farming got you to one tier lvl more in AoZ. Mustve felt worth it
You can get that DR with legendary aspect

“Slightly better” were words of Wudijo who spent his life in Diablo. Im just repeating his conclusion

its a buff stick. barbs use 4 wpns

Did you not see the % dmg bonus? It doesnt roll on usual 1h weapons.

For a HOTA barb, all weapons beside the 2h bludgeoning are stat sticks, but you are doing something wrong if you don’t think 41% extra life is incredible for your build.

…and no, not just because of the survivability it gives. Look into the mechanics of overpower and you’ll realise…
