Level scaling sucks. Can’t get ahead of the curve. As one person put it: You don’t level up, the monsters do. You just get some skill points to help you deal with it.
Gear level lags player level. I’m running around at level 40 with most of my gear in the high 20’s or lower 30s. Almost every item that drops is 5-10 levels lower.
Boss fight dynamics. Open world mobs are super easy but dungeon bosses have these insta death mechanics. Unless you study the fight in advance and/or have pro gamer skills you are going to die.
Starting over is boring. I just had my third HC death and I am NOT going to slog through every dumb quest line yet again. I made a point of maxing our renown for extra skill points but even so, it’s a repetitive slog.
Overall, not having a great time with this game so far.
That is why it is Hardcore : it challenges you in almost every aspects. And it takes dedications and commitments. It is really hard to achieve those as mentioned.
The only challenge is reaching 100 without a disconnect. Dying to in game mechanics is unlikely. I don’t think I ever came close to dying once on my way to 100. I lost a 70 and not an 83 to a disconnect. Game is not hard, disconnects/lag are the real issue.
Yeah the level scaling is a bit of an issue. There are ways you can play around the system though, and at least you can overlevel capstone dungeons if you feel you need to. Patience is the key. And a good internet connection.
Honestly sound like you’d enjoy softcore more.
If nothing else you can complete the campaign on softcore and once you know all mechanics switch to hardcore, while now having unlock mount and ability to skip campaign.
And given what you’re describing I’d also guess you started out on world tier 2?
Start on tier 1 and the boss damage is MUCH less threatening.
Server side dropping your connection is not part of HC. I don’t get how people can try and argue that, it’s a common problem that d2/d3 are not affected by. I’ve never d/c due to blizzards end. Either MY connection got lost or power outage got me d/c. But not blizzards end.
In D4 I’ve seen way too many deaths due to d/c server end. This is not a HC feature. This isn’t a “maybe hc isnt for you” because you died to blizz terrible servers/connection/bug. Unless you mean to tell me this doesn’t happen in Normal mode.

The player can choose when need level scaling and when you are ready by choose next difficulty step.

I don’t think the gear is a hardcore issue, though it is stressful trying to stay alive during the time frame from 1-40. I’m gonna make up the math on this but lets say it takes 5 hours to get to 40, which for me it does playing solo. Those 5 hours of tier1/tier2 gear isn’t going to give you much of anything. You’re out leveling your gear and you need to replace it not just what the highest # shows, but knowing what your class does best with vulnerable/core/close/distant etc. You’ll do bad if you got nothing that helps your build no matter what. You’re not wrong though. They turned part of diablo 3 starting play into diablo 4, but diablo 3 was actually fun for its earlier level builds because you didn’t depend on aspects to get SH*T done. in your 40 to 50, lets say takes 10 hours, your gear won’t be spread out not as much, an you can focus on the best stats, with putting on the correct aspects from dungeons. None of these things should be an issue past 50.
Beyond 50 you have lag, not being able to attack, not getting off horse, getting killed while on the ladder, unbalanced 1 shot mechanics from unique bosses that shouldn’t exist bc they’re probably just bugged.
I finished the quest line my first try, every character afterwards has the option to skip. Also getting your horse on softcore can transfer to hardcore, so that helps a lot too.
I was inside a dungeon when I died both times. Scroll did not work on both disconnects. What’s frustrating is that none of this is being mentioned in their blue posts. Just nerfs after nerf and shop fixes. Not one mention about their d/c - lag - rubberbanding - scrolls not working as intended issues.
