Refresh and apply the higher poison, but it stacks with other sources of poison.
If you crit for lets say 40k, then again for 50k, it will “refresh” and apply the poison from the 50k crit.
There’s no point in putting more than 1 point in it unless you just have points to spare. It really should stack with itself to be more useful. Right now it’s just a way to apply slow for the CC flag.
It would be outrageously busted with Blurred Beast if it stacked, I think, which is probably why it doesn’t.
It did stack with blurred beast, but it was hotfixed. Thats how people were getting ramping millions of damage with it.
I misunderstood that as a different issue, then. Oops.
It’s 23% base damage over 4 seconds which ticks every 500ms or 2.875% / tick (1/8 damage entropy / tick). Shred at 11 ranks has a base damage of:
For a total of 59.8% toxic claw damage per cycle. If you take all available sources of attack speed dual wielding axes you’re maximum attacks/second w/ shred is 2.64 or 88% of a cycle. The average second of shred at 100% crit can apply 52.624% worth or toxic claws damage.
You can theoretically apply 210.496% worth of poison in the 4 second window of toxic claws. However you are also losing significant damage potential as you apply it since each tick reduces that number. I don’t feel like doing the time sequence right now but it should be about 40-45% and put the maximum amount of toxic claws damage about 125%. This is less than both poison creeper and newly balance rabies.
The poisoning damage of 70% from buffed raging shred is actually way more damage in terms of blurred beast than anything you’d get from toxic claws as it’s higher damage and lasts for 5 seconds and thus entropies slower than toxic claws. Only problem with that is you only get 1 dash per cycle as opposed to 3.
There was likely a problem with the damage calculation in blurred beast when updating damage from toxic claws. Instead of fixing the calculation they took the easy route and just made toxic claws not stack with the result of making the passive almost worthless.
Is this a thing I have never realized, or is this strictly a numbers game?
There are very few sources of attack speed available. I calculated that out a while ago. I’ll try to gather them all and post them this afternoon after i’ve slunk away from work
For comparison, Rogues can hit 3.7068 attacks / second with flurry builds.
It either stacks in intensity or duration – you can tell because the darkened portion of the mob’s health bar grows with each hit.
Conversely, the Fire Bolt enchant for sorceress (all direct dmg burns for XX dmg) does not because the size of the darkened portion of the health bar never changes size - it just resets to the dmg specific by the enchant.
It doesn’t scale with crit damage btw, it applies a portion of the base damage if you crit, not the damage of the crit.
