I cant tell. It doesnt say “not learned yet” anymore, but it still doesnt show up next to my other passives above your abilities.
I’m not sure it’s supposed to show as your main spell passives do.
I think that it works, but it’s added on top of the other multiplicative damage, so you rarely get more than a 6-10% damage increase from it, except against elites or bosses.
The day they hotfixed it, I could push higher NM level instantly. I didn’t even know they had patched it, and I was like “damn, I hurt more than yesterday, well, I think I do”. I thought it was due to map affixes at first, but then, once I read the hotfix notes, I knew that Combustion was the reason why I was able to hit a tiny bit harder, especially during bursts.
It’s really not much though. 4% per unique source of burning past 3 sources (which you might only get the chance to apply against elites or bosses, except maybe on NM dungeons tier 50+, I can’t say.) or 2% per source otherwise.
Unless the elite is currently burning from every unique burning source at the same time, it’s not going to make a significant impact to your damage. I don’t use Incinerate, Meteor or Firebolt enchant in my toolkit, so best I can get is Inferno, Firebolt, Hydras (both hydras seems to count as one source only), Firewall and in a pinch, Flame Shield. So at best, it’s a 20% increase in my case, but using Flame shield in an offensive maner is only fine with easier content IMO.
A 20% multiplier is pretty much inferior to what you get from situational aspects (damage with a barrier on, damage against frozen/immobile/stunned, etc.) so it’s not going to be a “Yeah, I can jump from NM50 to NM90 dungeons thanks to that” kind of change, but it’s something to consider.
I dont know man. was the first time i played my mage in over 3 weeks. i feel barely any difference. Every other passive shows up when its active.
I just cant believe that combustion, the key passive doesnt. The other key passives do show up and since it took them almost a month to touch one of the main dmg sources of a build, i just dont believe them.
Maybe your increased dmg come from Burning instinct? It always showed 0% for me and after the patch its finally working as intended.
Burning Instinct always worked. It was simply poorly worded so that most people didn’t understand.
Before the patch, if you had 0 critical damage increase, you had 0 from this node, even if you had 1000 Intel. You had to stack critical damage from gear and paragon to see it. Those who saw 0 had 0 critical damage from gear as a multiplication by 0 is always zero. Even if you boast a 290% modifier from 1000 Intel, if you had 0 critical strike damage, you ended up with 0% increase from Burning Instinct.
I had over 400% damage increase from that node before the patch. Why? Because I had 800 Intel, critical damage on my weapon and rings, plus the nodes in the paragon board. If I only had 800 Intel and no critical damage (the base 50% didn’t count), then I would see 0%.
The only change that was made is that the base 50% critical damage is considered now, so people will always get something from Burning Instinct now, regardless of their gear.
Yes it works now since the hotfix a few days ago.
this ability seems woefully underpowered and pointless, like half of the key passives in this non playtested game
Burning instinct now give bonus on burning damages on player sheet, but the skills still not benefit from this bonus. I tried with 35% or 500% burning damages, and my Dps is exactly the same.
Absolutly no differences on burning ticks and overall damage with firewall or Inferno with or without 500% burning bonus
This is likely because the problem was never how much burning damage modifier you had- because none of the burning damage you deal actually scales correctly or off of this trait at all, except hydra.
Edit: Blizzard hates links
If you take the time, you’ll notice that even with incredible modifiers, these abilities have trouble with level 95 enemies, with the exception of direct damage abilities. Something ain’t right.
I test it from a buble at the end of a rift.
With burning instinct I have 484,6% burning damages, witout, I have only 35%.
→ but enemis don’t take more burning damages
I try to apply “inferno” on enemis (pur burning damages), and the final DPS is the same.
The burning ticks are all about 3000, with or without the bonus.

The trait does scale your damage, but the damage as a whole is missing a huge portion of scaling to even be relevant. Making incinerate hit 5k instead of 2.9k isn’t my idea of viable scaling.
