I will soon be in the market to upgrade my current 27" LG IPS monitor, and I’ve been leaning toward an OLED curved monitor. I’ve never used a curved monitor for anything before, so I am not entirely sure if it’s “gimmicky” or if there are actual benefits to gaming on one.
Also, does the curvature distort the text at all?
I play/mostly work on a LG 34" Curved Monitor. The only downside is when i look at it for a while and then sit in front of my big non-curved tv it looks like the tv is curved too but not inwards… outwards.
Text is not distorted.

You can always go check it out at a MicroCenter or whatever your local PC chain is and see how you like it.

I wish that I lived near a MicroCenter. I live in a small market - Best Buy is about the “best” tech store I have nearby.
The two specific monitors that I am currently comparing are the AlienWare AW3225QF and the LG 32GS95UE, although the curve of the LG seems very aggressive.

I just remember when I bought my last monitor, I thought I wanted a specific model and size and curved (Non-oled) and when I went to Microcenter it just did not live up to what I thought it would be, so I ended up getting a flat 240hz Gsync instead.
I am fairly certain the LG ones are pretty solid, but you should check how you actually like it. Look on their site they must have a “where to buy” link for local stores. You might have to drive a bit but probably worth it. Or just get it from Amazon and return it if you don’t like it.

I tried a curved monitor and fell in love and it’s all I use now, it takes a few hours to get used to
I use an ultrawide curved monitor. I work from home so it’s the same monitor I use for work. It’s great when I can have my IDE open on one half and other apps on the other. It works well for gaming although I would like to upgrade it to something like the Samsung gaming monitors. Worst case scenario you get black bars in games that don’t support the aspect ratio.
Thanks again, all!
So a follow up question - do any of you play on OLED?
A curved monitor distorts shapes, it pretty much just a gimmick. Don’t waste your money, it gets old quick.

I play on a 65" 4K OLED with VRR.

0 distortion on my curved monitor, sounds like you bought a crappy one or something
I dont have an OLED monitor but Panasonic TV with OLED. The best picture i have seen yet. DIV looks awesome on it.
I have used a 3k dollar curved monitor at work and it’s bad. We gave it away, as we do design. It distorts shapes.
I use a $900 one with no distortion so not sure what your issue was lol
The distorted shapes lol.

I have thought about getting an OLED TV, but I just can’t play on that big of screen. I also work behind a computer all day, and when I first got here, they had me behind a 42" TV as a monitor. I had to change it, since it made my eyes feel weird and sometimes would cause a dizzy feeling.
I grabbed this from another site:
If objects in the image are the same size in pixels regardless of location on the monitor (graphical UIs, photos taken with a fisheye lens), then:
- ■the curved monitor’s image will be accurate when you sit in its sweet spot.
■the flat monitor’s image will be accurate when you sit infinitely far away.
If the pixels in the image are distorted to be rectilinear (e.g. the photo I linked above - straight lines remain straight), then:
- ■the curved monitor’s image can never be accurate.
■the flat monitor’s image will be accurate when you sit so the monitor’s angular size matches the angle of view of the lens used to take the photo.
But unless the monitor and/or photo occupy more than about a 60 degree angle of view, the distortion in all these cases is minimal, and you’re unlikely to be able to notice it.
You have to be a set distance from any display or it will cause issues.

I play Diablo 4 on a 120 inch projector. I sit about 8 feet away though. And I do the bulk of my work here as well.
I can’t really play OW (or any shooters) on this though, so that is what the 240hz is for.
I mean I suppose I can play Moira or something on the projector…but still can strain the eyes because there is so much going on.

I could not even imagine playing on a 10’ screen
.
Something I noticed with my current monitor is that if I look closely enough, I can actually see the “pixels” within the screen. I am assuming, since it’s in IPS monitor, that what I am seeing are the “lights” within the screen. I don’t think that it’s due to a defective monitor or anything like that. It’s only noticeable if I focus on seeing them, but it’s one of those “once you see it, you can’t unsee it”. If I am correct in what I am seeing, is that something that I will not notice with an OLED monitor?
I really wish that I was more tech-savvy; I think I’d be able to better explain all of this lol.
