Do you create your own builds or use guides

Just curious how many people create their own builds vs using YouTube videos & guides and replicating theirs.

I’m in the 2nd category where I copy a build, study it and make modifications to suit my style.

Use a build and modify it for me. Too lazy to do all the work for a game

I started with my own, but used maxroll to try others out since they played more. I’ll usually play a build then tinker it over time.

Builds are pretty linear and the illusion of choice is poor actually. I am sure even if you try to cook up some build yourself you will eventually still end up with what others tested and proven, as long as you know what you are doing. Maybe with just a minor difference

At the moment i’m still playing campaign switching between WT1&2. I made my own build and focused on items that improved it. Its working so far and i’ll see how far it takes me. Once i start to struggle after tweaks and gear upgrades i may look into one of the meta builds.

I used icy-veins and wowhead for my first character(necro 58). Now I do whatever I want on my Sorc and having zero issues so far(49).

Ive been messing around on my own and have not looked at any builds yet.

So far been progressing steadily on my own, but if i hit a cap in progress i m8ght finally break down and look at a build site to see if theres any improvments ive been missing

I usually follow a build for the type of character I want to play. There are people out there with far more time to dedicate to min-maxing a video game than I have so I usually start there. Modify as I see fit.

Started with my own (from beta) for both Druid & Necro.

Druid I’ve looked at guides since and have only modified my build slightly as I didn’t know werewolf pets could spread your ranked rabies.

Necro isn’t to WT3 yet where I’ll start doing some research on it to modify my build if any at all.

A little of both while I can and as progression dictates.

i make my own build since i have a 3 digit IQ and enjoy fun. some on the lower side of things tend to copy brilliant minds such as myself

Figuring out builds is the major part of RPGs for me. It’s literally a waste of money if i did what someone else said.

I’ve never liked using guides in Diablo games. I feel like it defeats a lot of the fun of playing the game.

I’ll use third party sites in order to look up gear combinations and stat values, but builds I like coming up with on my own. Tweaking my character trying to find the best optimization is a huge part of the fun of the game.

0 guides, the other day I saw Wujuju’s (or whatever he’s called) build because it popped up in my queue. I try to ignore all guides except some for locations on the map, completion gets tedious towards the end.

I created my own build, and so far really rocking the build. I am playing rogue and during the betas i tried Ranged and Melee. Melee was a bit more fun. Wanted to go with a more Tankier / Mobility Rogue

A bit of both, I look at guides for a general direction for a type of build that I want to try. But not having the same gear means having to adapt along the way.

I have been using a build I made myself on my rogue. I am even a little proud of how well its doing.
I like trying my own thing at first, but if I am unable to proceed properly through a game with said build I will look up the meta and adjust things.

I rarely copy paste the meta, and it has cost me frustrations in games like POE though.

Yes.

I create my own build and then use guides done by people who love math more than I do to fine tune it and see if I missed something that would make it work better.

Took a build that was pre-done for max and modified it to my play style

Highfive!
Its very rewarding and a nice feeling when you make a build and it turns out to be the meta and most efficient right? For me it doesnt always happen but sometimes it does and feels good.
