Do steampunk spiders or scorpions really belong in a Diablo game?

I am not feeling the Season 3 theme. It feels like a poor fit in a Diablo game IMO. If they wanted to add companions I believe they should have been mercenaries, pets or beast, not robots.

I do not mind new things being brought to the Diablo franchise but they need to fit with the medieval theme of the game. I do not think these do that.

What to you folks think?

i dont think so no.

if i think about diabloesque enemies/allies, they are fleshy and bloody. not metallic and robotic.

ghosts/souls/boney-undeads are the acceptable non fleshy entities.

but hey its their game they can try stuff if they want to. we only get to decide if we like it or not, after the fact.

I’m disappointed. Out of all of the things they could’ve done, they chose this ;/

For starters, I personally hate pet classes. Being forced to play one isn’t ideal… especially if this thing is needed to progress in Season 3’s version of AoZ…

Moreover, the pet looks ridiculous. A robot? Sigh.

I’d rather have some type of undead Force Ghost of Qui-Gon following me around and teaching me new skills… This Toys R Us pet is so incredibly underwhelming…

Looks like the biggest update of the season involves Tejal… Terrible reveal.

because magic isnt part of the diablo world… the machines are run via magic and magical runes. people accept golems but not other magical things?

Various structures and devices using cogs/gears were common enough in the 1300s. Considering this is an alternate world that has magic, angels, demons, and various other supernatural elements I don’t think it’s far fetched that they started to add a steampunk element in. You have people who can raise the dead, others who can turn into animals, and you’re concerned Geppetto over there made a mechanical scorpion?

Don’t forget guns started to make an appearance in the mid to late 1300s as well. Gunpowder was invented well before this, along with actual canons. Won’t be long before we get those in an iteration of a Diablo game too.

That is my issue too but I can handle it for one season.

As for Mechs, it’s hard to judge if the theme works until we get into it.

A robotic drone companion you augment with different chipsets isn’t congruent with the Diablo aesthetic at all.

What an incredibly stupid idea for a Diablo game, lol.

If you played D3 you find many kinds of constructs in Kules laboratory.

This is how we know you’re not reasonable. You got 15,000+ words about the new season and told to expect more come the patch notes release and your takeaway is the less than 50 words about the shop. What a joke.

I’m curious as to which part of S3 you think is the S3 version of AoZ considering nothing of the sort was mentioned.

The literally had a guy wearing a mech suit in the main story of the game. He was practically a cast iron Gundam. I don’t think a magically formed construct is all that far fetched comparatively.

For the whole thread…. Why do you think this is a pet class? Does it function like the pets and minions we know already, not really. From the sound of the text it’s just a graphical variation of the D3 mercenary. No one considered the mercenary a pet class.

It really feels like y’all are just making up stuff to be mad about. Get over it. Sheesh.

im liking it. thinking lightning bolt with gripping, resource and cooldown runes. pulls mobs in from a far. then the gyrate with different upgrades for more dmg. it will be like having a ww barb merc that sucks enemies in to it.

Best part is they’ll still play the new season. It’s like some sort of twisted masochism. I can just picture them with one hand on the new WASD controls and the other on their joystick, “I hate this game so much! Disappoint me more you dirty excuse for a triple A game!”

let’s be fair no one already interested in D4 new season, even this forum is dead.

I remember how i saw Rob criting billions on streamer early access with thousands of legendaries raining from the sky, i immediatly realized oh sh… D3 clone all over again.

And guess what? it is D3 clone going D3 path and no matter what will you add to the game either steam spiders or bananas or unicorns it still will be same old D3 10h per season aka ghost town after 1w of the season.

Who could guess it? LMAO

They mentioned in the past that it’s going to be something they are doing with every season. Something similar to AoZ for the “heavy hitters”.

As for your little cry about my reference to Tejal, did you not read their initial reveal?

" We’re dialing up the heat in the Shop with new Equipment, Armor, Accessories, Mount and Mount Armor bundles that will have you slaying in style. Starting on January 23, you’ll want to pay Tejal a visit to browse her wares—remember to check back often, as she’ll update her stock throughout Season of the Construct. One such rarefied find from the far reaches of Sanctuary is the barbarian Lord Eater Cosmetic Bundle, which contains the Lord Eater‘s Armor Set, 2 Lord Eater’s Weapon Cosmetics, and a Lord Eater’s Legend marking."

When their insanely overpriced Item Shop is a major pillar in their “reveal”, then I have the right to talk about it.

I think it’s an ugly child from D2’s Iron Golem, and D3 Zoltun Kell constructs.

If the “system” they are adding to the engine now works, reskin to humanoid companions and turn the runes into equips will be a piece of cake. Let’s wait…

This is not steam-punk per se, this is magic-punk.

Ive always tried to maintain the mindset of try it before you trash it. So i’ll reserve my opinion on it being great or awful until after i play it.

I am not mad. I just do not think it fits. For the record, I felt the same about the mech suit.

I just expressed my opinion and asked other forum members for theirs because, you know, that is what a forum is for.

Pilfered directly from elder scrolls.

No i dont think so.

I like how they probably started with zoltan kulle, where they ran with it imo is strongly dumb.

To be fair, ancient robots in fantasy settings have been a thing for a long time, so it’s not really something Elder Scrolls can take credit for–I think we’re agreeing it’s not stolen from ES.

Remember Clash of the Titans? Perseus had a robot owl companion. The ancient world imagined robots like Talos and golems are a very old myth. I think it could be interesting in Diablo, if done right.
