Do something with the exponential damage scaling!

I do not understand why in the game we have so much dependence from the gear and practically no reliance on skills? One of the reasons is exponential damage scaling from the gear making it the most valuable in going through the game content. This also makes the skill tree to select ability you wanna rock the game.

I think that the first step can be remove that ridiculous damage scaling.
Are there any other ways to make the skill tree more important while items need to carry a support role?

I would also prefer more skill scaling ala D2 than gear scaling, but they did the thing so, yeah.

When you Stun, Freeze, or Immobilize an Elite, you Pull In all Nearby enemies and deal [30 - 60]%[ x ] increased damage to them for 3 seconds. Can only occur once every 12 seconds

After you spend 275 of your Primary Resource, your next Core Skill is guaranteed to Overpower. Your Critical Strikes that Overpower deal [20 - 60]%[x] increased damage.

Just as an example, I hate these bold parts.

The item would still be cool and desired, but with the dmg scaling makes them pretty much mandatory even if you don’t care about the primary effect.

Like can’t we just have cool effects on stuff without everything having a “… and it does x% times more damage” clause?

The banished lord’s primary already boosts dmg in a way, so does the crown, but no we have to put multiplier on top of it.

Goes for aspects, glyphs, skills and uniques.

I get that we need some, but it feels like everything just has to have some x% dmg for some odd reason.

Then when it doesn’t, or the % is low, the item sucks even if the effect is cool.

I actually appreciate this…atleast you have the information and not guessing. I agrre the skills should be more important …i laugh a little because as BS necro, I think my Bone Spirit skill sits at 24, and the tooltip doesn’t even show what the next rank gets me.
at T4 just ignore anything with a “+” and go for the “x”

I agree. There are a lot of zeros and a lot of difference between meta and non-meta which makes all the content obsolete or impossible to do. I suffer with the rogue to kill Asteroth but with my druid to pulverize this is a joke.
