Make the entire overworld the Helltide, 100% of the time.
Now that is an interesting idea. Though to be sure, what would that get us? Helltides already run every hour, for 55 minutes, just in a different location. My concern is how would the system administrators handle the greatly increased load? There continue to be stability issues of disconnects, rubber banding, and what I call sling shotting. HT all the time would surely strain the system. On the other hand…
Imagine is HTs had lair bosses pop up? Major forays of monsters more numerous than Infernal Hordes. World bosses. And yes, drops of multiple greater affix items, mythics even.
Nice post, good idea.
I think having it permanently worldwide would be annoying.
BUT, it might be a good idea if with each torment they increased the zones and the “power” (effect) of the Helltide. So that in T12 it’s a real infernal tide across the entire world.
The idea that the highest difficulty level being a permanent hell just sounds right.
I can get onboard with this. Higher difficulty would therefor give higher chance of and more opportunities for better rewards. And I also like the idea of increasing torment increasing how hellish the world is.
No…Make the open world alive. Kyovashad with a harsh 1-hour winter that reduces your maximum frost resistance by 30% and doubles the gold reward. Make the swampy region have poison pools and poison clouds that chase you, but ensure that elites only drop boots. We need creativity. Explore the open world. Make 2 infernal tides. One normal and another with Lilith’s influence, with her flying after you all the time.
Making the Open World alive would require difficulty scaling and truly random events that you cannot just encounter running around until you find the one you want like when they have Treasure Goblins events or Seasonal stuff like Chaos portals. It would also require the entire World to be dynamic with a Fog of War so you have true discovery in each playthrough.
Having a static map you can just teleport around without any random events or difficulty scaling makes it worthless to develop.
No thanks on it being everywhere, all the time. That would take away from people doing the storyline / quests.
Maybe have the zone coverage of helltides vary, like a tide coming in and going out. So 1 zone to 12 zones growing over time, then receding. Depending on Tier rank. So Tier 5 would have a maximum of 5 helltide zones. Tier 12, would have… 12
Ooooo, I like your ideas !!
No, please no. Having to create a build for each zone is extremely annoying.
(Especially if you enable instakills for a particular element)
You can add more “ice elites” if you want to create a more thematic Helltide, but not more damage from them.
It should be noted that a “piñata” (
) world only gets in the way when you want to go from point A to point B.
For it to be worthwhile, the world itself must constantly change (be randomly generated)… and that’s not going to happen because of how the game is made.
But it would be interesting to have the “dreamlike” Rifts from D3 on a larger scale (Those that combine multiple maps on a single floor) with the characteristics you mentioned.
Only if we get a pause screen.
Like P…
Nvrmnd
Sigh. Big no from me.
I wish they went back with vanilla desing. Meaning that HT would unlock after reaching certain treshold - which was finishing the nightmare I think ?
Also I would love to remove icons of chests(like it was before), but blasters would prolly go insane if they had to actually search the area…
And reinsert cooldown between them again. Oh those were good times.
I think this would be unrealistic as how the hell would anyone have survived as a child to become a hero? There has to be some safe space of civilization that has held back the demons.
Which is why I like the replied idea, where moving higher into Torment Difficulties (especially considering 12 are coming next season) more and more of the map becomes infested by “hell”. Would also kind of make sense in a way of moving higher into Torment shows more of Mephisto’s influence over the world, the overworld.
So like a Nightmare Tide? Rare event that covers the entire continent? All world bosses have a Nightmare variant? Give me a DOOM dragon I can ride around on for various events and breath fire and deal.
Maybe on the highest Torments you get new enemies, minibosses, and variants of Nightmare world bosses that spawn from T10 and up? Also Nightmare strongholds and amped up stronghold bosses? ![]()
Complete certain T10+ Nightmare world events and unlock special mounts and new skins. On T12 it’s amped up and they look even more insanely cool to show off!
MOM LOOK WHAT I DID
The game is sorely lacking in special events. They need to remember that we play dozens of hours per season, so we need special events. Duriel’s infernal tide was quite interesting. Perhaps he could appear from time to time instead of being summoned. There are many options for improvement.
Yeah, just have to watch out for the overwhelming part that will eventually come up if the Devs decide to go this route.
There’ too many players in the world that have this idea that they must do everything in a single day everyday so if they add too much they’ll start complaining that there is too much to do and that they are getting overwhelmed.
The real question it though what it too much and too little?
Scripted and Timed Events are horrible. We do not need more World Boss and Legion Raids. The change for Hell Tides to always be active was one the best changes they did.
You really do not want an In Game Activity Calendar or have to refer to a Third Party World Event Time website you keep up on a second screen like Lost Ark. If they do anything with the Open World, it needs to be dynamic and truly random to keep players playing in it and not “farming it”.
They should add reasons to not always be in helltides.
Doesn’t that still have the same problem though of having to wait for a specific favored event to happen?
I’m not sure how to approach this myself but the randomization seems to still have the same problem as times and/or scripted event with the difference being that they can’t be planned.
Not really sure but despite what some players say I don’t think they’ll like their efficiency game play interrupted by pure randomization. I mean can’t really be efficient if almost everything that gives the good stuff is too unpredictable to plan for.
I wouldn’t be bothered by it personally, in a way it might be a nice change and long as the event are rouge like to where you can get killed instantly just by being at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Open World should have some degree of static things happening in it that can be planned, and a higher degree of Randomization as well.
Any Events would not just spawn while you are running around but happen as you play to encourage engaging in the Open World. This means no giant Orange circles on your Mini-Map you can hop to. The Rewards via Randomization should be higher than Static ones you farm because the efficiency is lower.
This provides a totally different vibe and playstyle to the Instance hopping we have now.
