so nothing particular but ive noticed the mods in the discord for diablo 4 are quite discriminatory against one side of an argument or another based on how they feel not based around rules or logic this includes political names or talks which shouldnt happen in the first place. ive noticed this quite a bit and even taken screenshots which idk if i can post here but wont if i can due to worry ill be banned from the forums for putting them on blast.
edit: so i guess it isnt an official discord which is odd it has all the devs in it i get they might just be watching for info, but in regards they really should have thier own discord tbh so they can moderate it properly and not as poorly as the mods have done.
No, there is not. Blizzard does not run any official Discord servers or moderate any servers. Community Managers may drop into larger servers to gather feedback, the same way they read feedback on reddit or any other platform. They don’t own it or run it though.
If someone joins a Discord server they need to abide by the rules set up by Discord, and by the specific Server owner/mods.
I will share some very old wisdom. If someone wants to ensure calm and argument free discussion, there are certain topics you don’t discuss. Religion, politics, and divisive social issues. This is usually bandied about as a reminder before family Holidays like Thanksgiving, but it applies across the board.
Throwing out flame bait to get people stirred up is likely to get things removed by mods in most places.
Now, if you want to discuss strategies to kill a boss, class balance, skill synergy, etc. I am sure they are happy to let you post your thoughts on that, esp if you don’t try to personally attack others.
This is not something Blizzard has any control over.
due to worry ill be banned from the forums for putting them on blast.
Correct. Blizzard does not allow call out threads, esp when the purpose would be to cause disruptions.
Are you sure because the advertisement for the Discord was front and center on the Battle.net client, that’s how I found it and according to this image it does say official Diablo 4 Community.
Selective enforcement of open ended rulesets are a wide spread problem in big corporations and media. The future will be interesting in how this is dealt will, certainly. But for now, it’s to be expected. Just know that people who see no issue with it are ones who have never been challenged. They’re unaware of what actual ideas are out there because they place themselves in echo chambers. And because of this, they lack critical thinking skills completely. They are to be pittied.
If it is a private server then they having official in it really implies something else. I was under the assumption that it was officially diablo 4 blizzard server. If it is or isn’t won’t change me using it just feels like false advertisement a bit if that is the case.
People need to understand that you do not have free speech on ANY online forum. The owner can pretty much do whatever.
Just discuss what you went there to discuss and ignore all other statements. No point in trying to backseat moderate or fight moderators. You have no power and no statement you make will matter.
I see what they are doing I think. The Community Managers are not Mods and are not Channel owners. They are there to mostly watch and collect feedback, and if they say something you know who they are.
They have a similar thing set up with the Wowhead discord for WoW.
Honestly, I think that makes it just more confusing. It is not actually run by Blizzard, and Blizz does not moderate.
Now, I have to figure out who does run it. I see this in the announcements
:alert:We are excited to announce this Discord is now officially in Partnership with Blizzard, for Diablo 4! :alert:
So they are partnered like Streamers are. Well that explains part of this. Heh.
EDIT! Got it. The folks who own and run it are the reddit r/Diablo4 folks.
Definitely a bad idea to bring up wars, tax reform, etc… politics. But so much of what is called politics is actually social structure. How people “are”. One can’t be a different person than who they are. Speech patterns shouldn’t have to change to someone’s definition of proper, etc when we’re not talking about vulgarity. The real issue is that diversity of culture isn’t accepted more and more. And to illustrate your culture is called “politics”. There is a distinction that conveniently gets erased.
There is a time and a place for everything. Another old saying. Just because something is ok to say around friends, does not mean it is ok at work , for example.
I say this as someone who got backhanded a fair bit and got my mouth washed out with soap. I was not even in a particularly strict family. The idea that people can just go around saying whatever without consequences is maybe something more modern and internet based? Manners and etiquette have always been a thing. More so when dealing with strangers, esp those from all walks of life, countries, and backgrounds.
