Disappointed with necro in Act 1 story (spoilers)

To those who might not know, Rathma is the first necromancer. There are literal shrines to the guy and even in IV the golem unlock is done at such a shrine. To necromancers this is about as close as it gets to a deity figure. That there is no unique interaction when you find his corpse is sad. What’s more the character even gets completely verified proof of his identity. After that cinematic they respond like it’s just another mob.

After this point, sure, normalize all the class experiences if you want barring any other particular vignettes that might be relevant to the rest. The only other more potentially special appearance that would have necro specific significance is meeting Trag’Oul himself.

Maybe you’ll be pleasantly surprised when Necro dude plays the long game and resurrects himself and flips the table on everyone in the 3rd act.

Could happen. Would be cool so long as it was still respectful of the cycle somehow. That moment is still a letdown.

I found myself surprisingly appreciative of the subtle sadness in Lilith’s voice and want to kill Inarius myself. I think that act ended the way it should have. Hit me in the feels and make me want to continue.

Because it isn’t Rathma’s real corpse. I mean how could that not be super duper obvious? What, did you really think they actually killed the Cinematic trailer badguy offscreen?

How CONVENIENT that the spear which was pierced through “Rathma’s” chest just happened to have the key Lilith wanted. It is almost like she was being setup.

Isn’t it also super convenient that the person who gave Inarius that prophecy just happened to be Rathma?

But yeah, the story telling in Diablo 4 is just as bad as Diablo 2’s story telling was. Everything interesting and important happened before you arrived and the story is narrated by a different character.

In Diablo 3 you were in the thick of the story, your character narrated the story, each character had their own unique personality and their own unique lines they would chime in with when it was pertinent. Even the companion characters had some unique lines.

top kek, D3 story was Disney Diablo, what are you on about.

Diablo 3 had a competently written story. The story unfolded and progressed as a result of your actions which is exactly what a video game story should be.

Diablo 2’s story was not a good video game story. As I said having the story being told entirely through cutscenes that don’t involve your character is bad video game storytelling. I’d have more interaction from watching a movie.

This doesn’t matter. From a character POV, our character thinks this is the actual Rathma. The idea that Blizzard might pull some 4D maneuver is irrelevant for this story beat.

100% agree. This part of the quest totally broke the immersion of the game. If they want D4 to have RPG elements, they need to focus on making each class have unique interactions with their environment/npcs.

Remember how each class in D2 had a different reaction to entering the Arcane Sanctuary? Those were the touches that made the game feel alive.

So are you saying the Elias character is the real Rathma? I would be on board with this, but I’m not sure there is any solid evidence to support your claim. Maybe we’ll be pleasantly surprised.
