Getting functionally 1 shot by a boss in Tier 1 when I have level appropriate gear and a barb specced for survival? What kind of player is this game balanced for? How are we supposed to adapt and overcome during a boss fight when their first attack reduces the character’s HP to zero. Are you expecting every player to watch other people play the game on a stream to learn the fights before attempting to play on their own? Because that’s not gaming. That’s watching other people play a game. It is literally a waste of time to even attempt a hardcore character at this point.
It seems like a higher up got enamored with the Dark Souls series and didn’t stop to think why punishing gameplay works there. The reason the punishing nature of the souls series works is because of the respawn mechanic. You have a chance to do it again. Here in D4? Oh, you stood in a red circle in a level filled with circles of blood and you were supposed to know to move despite the graphical effects not being any different than the ground they appear on. Now go do it again but start from scratch. Have some respect for your player’s time FFS. RIP lvl 43 barb.
Oh, I know. Gitgud scrub. Well that applies to game design as well. This whole lot should be readying their unemployment insurance claims. What a joke.

Hardly a knee jerk reaction. Been playing Diablo since the first one came out. The design of this game is not in line with the rest of the series. Not posting until now doesn’t mean anything other than that this deviation from the series was worthwhile to post about.

Yeah, it’s completely backwards.
Bosses are only a threat to a player for the early game. Eventually you get to the point you can just stand in front of them and never die. But white mobs and elite packs will eat you alive.
The balancing is so out of whack in this game.

They added a dodge, it wasn’t in other Diablo games.
Enemies have long wind ups on certain attacks, this is your queue to use the dodge.

Again, trying to make Diablo into Dark Souls. Can’t wait for the fad to die.
…it’s a button…push it. Use your Unstoppable if you can’t push it. Bind Force Move to mouse wheel or something. I don’t know man. Go play Diablo 2 Resurrected if you miss old school style.

Crazy story: there was a dodge in Diablo 3, but only in the console version. It proved so popular it became a core mechanic in D4.
Playing a Rend Barbarian. Face tanked everything in the game so far. The only time I have been one shot was attempting the level 70 Capstone dungeon at level 54 (those dudes that spit the Frost wave).
There’s also how this forum ignores posts you’ve done on other game forums, despite it all being under Blizzard’s umbrella. I’ve been posting on the forums since Wrath yet this place seems to think I’m brand new to it.
Good job reading for comprehension. The OP wasn’t about the dodge mechanic. It’s about the fact that a character can by ONE SHOT by a boss, even in Hardcore mode. ESPECIALLY in hardcore mode!
