Diablo really made just for consoles?

I’ve been seeing a lot of posts about different aspects of the game that seem to be targeted towards consoles:
Zoom
WASD
View Angle
etc.

Do you think the game was retrofitted for PC/mouse but initially created with only consoles in mind?

I’m starting to think so.

Then why so slow to support PC/mouse? Seems odd unless it was initially engineered as console only.

It’s very clearly a game designed for consoles with PC as an afterthought.

It’s obvious that this game is a console port when the devs are constantly talking about couch co-op. News to Actiblizz, even most console players don’t care about couch co-op.

It absolutely was, that even stated as such. The whole UI design was developed for console from the ground up

It’s developed for both simultaneously.

…?

The game plays a lot more fluidly on PC than it does console. Where are you coming at us from with this frame of thought?
This game is not a console port, nor was it designed for consoles, nor was it designed for consoles then PC afterwards.

It is just commonsense practice to design a game to be compatible with a system that does not change, that being console, but the core of the game is designed around PC where the most accessibility is, KB/M.

WASD is an inferior design, I will not be defending myself on this for the billionth time.

The camera zoom is a system friendly design and likely a flavor choice. The closer your camera is, the less your GPU has to render as the game is screen-space rendering dependent.

Top down isometric “point of view” is a COMPUTER first system dating all the bloody way back to the 1990’s. It is the least favored option for any console games.

That’s the typical bait & switch Blizzard always pulls. They said that Diablo 4 will be a PC first game yet the game was built to cater to consoles in all aspects.

  1. Lack of WASD movement, but controller works and they are working on fixing issues with it like max teleport distance, etc. instead of giving PC players what they want WASD.
  2. No overlay, to hard to make it work on 4 player co-op. PC players are all on a different PC if grouped and wouldn’t bother their view or immersion.
  3. Zoomed in closer to character than any other ARPG. Hell even MMO’s arnt this close. Only console games.
  4. Dumbed down skill tree, notice its all in a line you dont have to change to different synergies like D2 sorc cold, fire, lightning trees, etc.
  5. Lack of skill bar slots set to 6 because if it was more there wouldn’t be enough “controller” buttons for the game.
  6. No runewords, they said they will put them in when balanced…ok 3 years later maybe if that money for the team to make game work with controllers on PC you could have just put in WASD and runewords but who are we to say they dont know what to prioritize for a supposedly “PC FIRST” game.
  7. PvP has to be set on when in killing fields or you can just run them without getting pked. Console decision here again, majority of the PvP players are on PC and want it to be on if you enter the fields period.
  8. And so so so much more its astonishing.

I wouldn’t believe anything Blizzard says because they are always caught lying. Lie after lie to the loyal fans.

@Sonny -Your post is pointless, child person.
There must be a reason D4 devs are reluctant to put WASD in asap. The only reason that makes sense is that it was initially engineered for console.

Allocation of resources is the reason. Simple as that. Now stop throwing a tantrum. Ignoring you.

to me it feels like it was built for consoles first but with pc in mind.

a bit of a shame but whatever. it is what it is there’s a whole lot of console plebs. Sadly.

i’d love if a company spat on consoles(and phones while at it) and didnt care about the money. a company that caters to PC masterrace only  that’s the niche i need lol

@Sonny - best news I heard all day.

I don’t know why this is news to anyone. Games have been dumbed down as console ports for decades now. Most tragically for me was Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. The modding community saved it as best they could, but the processing limitations put in place for consoles meant even mods could only go so far.

Diablo IV will be a simplistic game with only the most bare-bones of RPG elements. Enjoy the ride for as long as you can, but don’t expect any kind of meaningful choices or story like Neverwinter Nights and Divinity: Original Sin 2.

@Teksuo It would have been helpful if D4 devs were being open and up front with fans.
If there are limitations in the game, then let us know. Then we can make informed decisions as to what is most important to us.

I would have thought the more prominent argument that it’s developed for both is the 6 skill limit. Diablo 4 has less hotkeys than Diablo 1. Various parts of the UI are also clunky.

Like comparing Skyrim to Morrowind. It’s obvious compromises were made to support both.
Nothing new though.

Never gets old. PC people whining about console and console people whining about PC.

Oh wait that’s a lie. It does get old because it is such a pointless thing to complain about.

Complaining about complaining? What? Really? You need a serious chat with a mirror.
