Diablo IV Seasons Question

Okay. Not here to bash or defend game. Seen better, seen worse, seen better patches, seen worse patches. Been gaming since release of Atari 2600, the year after I graduated high school. Yep…old. Probably why I’ve seen better and worse over the years. People who think D4 seasons is worse gaming decisions ever didn’t suffer through EverQuest release…and innumerable broken updates.

Now my question. Will all seasons be just like this season, albeit a different little 3-5 hour story? I will (if I choose) just do same renown, same identical side quests, same exact dungeons, same exact mobs etc., every three months?

If that’s the case, personally I’d rather pay my extra dollars quarterly (or semi annually) for a perhaps a new continent and something different to do that takes 10-15 hours than for “cosmetics”.

I can see me finishing Season 1 (mainly to use premium battle pass that came with game). If all I can do is exact same things in Season 2 that I did in Season 1 (minus a very tiny story line), can’t see me doing doing that every quarter ad nasuem. Those of you that enjoy that, more power to you.

The draw of Diablo games is generally more the combat and exploring build variety. To me, the story campaign is meaningless. I dont want a 10-15 hour story, I’d rather just have none.

To me, the “content” of Season 1 are the malignant hearts, the new unique items, and the new end game boss fight.

I skipped through all the dialog with Cormund because its meaningless and not interesting, I just did it to get through it.

Cosmetics are cheaper to develop. That’s what we’re gonna get.

You could be a patron of D4 dev team by buying battlepass every season. Or, you can be a wise one and just zone out of D4 game and come back when they release the next expansion.

Since you experienced Atari, I suppose you would be the latter.

They have not planned out all the seasons, each season will be different and offer cosmetics and new mechanics.

I believe they are also planning expansions (free or paid for) that will ultimately expand the world map too.

The plan as I understand it is a long term one.

Unless the dev decides to break the traditional ARPG boundaries, all future non-planned seasons will be the exact same.

It’s all just reconfiguring number formula to make your experience a little different that is placed into a themed context. If you feel this as a new mechanic every season… boy oh boy. You have a taste for dumbed down content.

It’s really hard to say at this point.

I think they acknowledge that patch 1.1 and the launch of S1 was very disappointing for most player’s. But if they still sell enough cosmetics and battlepasses, they won’t have any reason to make future seasons more content full / engaging. Hopefully they realize they are in the dog house now and need to do better.

It will probably take 4-6 seasons of player’s beta testing their seasonal ideas before they discover ones they want to keep around for future content. I think by that point the dev’s will have a better idea of what they are doing / where they are taking the franchise.

The solution was to just add this season 1 to the very short lived eternal realm. Since we barely got a month and a half that’s only half a “season”. Players who are more casual also like 90% of player base didn’t even hit 100 yet.

Why not just roll seasons into the eternal realm? They can still use the battle pass to unlock that quest and phase out players like how they do it already?

You have no idea what they plan for each season! Lets wait and see. its not good speculating on something we have no idea about.
