Diablo IV is not a game - it is a job

This isn’t about burnout while having at least some fun. This game feels more like a job than an actual game.

  1. Crashes consistently on a high-end gaming system. About once an hour. Is tech support helpful? Nope. They just copy and paste stuff from a script - there is no evidence of thinking over there.

  2. Overreliance on Vulnerability to make progression viable, leaving other builds severely underpowered. I play a sorc and I am getting kinda sick just beating on stuff over and over with only 1 build that seems to make sense in W3 or W4.

  3. Mount navigation is not fun - can’t run in town, and the mechanics are wonky.

  4. Itemization is uninspiring.

  5. Aesthetics - having to buy armors that look halfway decent is ridiculous. Why do all the default skins make it look like every toon was shopping through a bloody trash pile?

  6. I have no sense of “power” compared to D2 or D3. Everything feels like a chore.

One of the satisfactions is building a toon and having a sense of consistent forward progress that is meaningful and noticeable. I don’t see that here in D4. In D2 or D3, you had options to try things out and still have fun, with a some satisfaction of getting powerful and seeing it on the screen. I am not suggesting everyone should one shot everything. But , here you try things out and you are rewarded with constant death. Blizzard has had gripes in the past with armor sets and builds being too plain and not giving many options. I feel this is more prominent in D4.

I will try a rogue. Maybe I will even try the ice shard build. I’ve played for 2 weeks, about 4-5 hours throughout the day. I actually sleep, yo. But, I am getting to a point where I just don’t care about this game anymore. And it’s only been 2 weeks. I didn’t have this feeling with any of the previous Diablo Titles, with the exception of Diablo Immortal - and D4 is a non P2W variant of DI.

And I don’t see a reason to buy a battle pass for any season if this is how it is going to go. It’s rinse and repeat and it’s getting extremely boring.

I hope Blizzard has the capacity to listen instead of behaving with such blatant disregard for the people who actually play what they have created for money.

3.5M copies in a short period of time - Blizzard seems like it has decided it has already made its money on Diablo 4, and so most of us will just be ignored, or that random person with zero evidence saying “I melt stuff in W4” and provide no evidence whatsoever, will be the fly in the KY, not really addressing the deficiencies in this game - pardon me - job.

The alternative view is this: I have been playing Diablo titles since D1 (10631 was my #) and so D4 instructs me that Blizzard’s idea of fun is now different than it used to be. Maybe this new generation of console players is their strategic choice for a market. But, I’m finding it hard to have fun.

Noted.

You can even beat slaves with a stick while feeding them carrots.

If you are already frustrated, I would not try the ice shard build. You can make them work, but it’s neither simple nor intuitive. Go with the rogue.

Weird.

In D2 I had to devote a large portion of my stats just to ensure my melee attacks could hit, and grinded away at mobs when I played a Paladin. The way resists works meant I crumbled like a piece of paper unless a large portion of my gear was devoted to capping those mandatory stats as well. At the end of the day, not much room was left, which is why stuff like +All Skills was so rampant and desirable in that game - you didn’t even have the stat budget to play around with fun stuff like you do in D4.

Meanwhile, in D4, I can fight mobs 15+ levels above me, Teleport into a crowd of them, Frost Nova them, and watch them instantly die to a barrage of dozens of frost shards that proc off said frost nova. And I can do that combo every 7 or 8 seconds.

Your build is awful if you don’t feel strong.

I mean, this isn’t wrong, but I do prefer it to my real job

The mounts need an overhaul in my opinion. A simplification.

  • remove the useless dismount ability
  • remove the burst charges
  • make the mount permanently run at boost level 1 speed
  • let them move this fast in town too
  • remove mount cooldown after dismount

That’s a hot take as I think most people agree that the in-game armor looks better than the cash shop ones.
The rest, dunno I have fun, loads of fun with my lvl88 rogue, with my alts and the activities.

The only thing I might agree on that Vulnerability needs a rework so we don’t have to rely on that stat alone.

Crashes, I had maybe 1-2 since release.

A great way to put it.

I also forgot to mention the annoying farming materials aspect that plagues MMO’s. The reason there is this farming component is that it’s marketed as “something else that is fun to do in the game!”

But, that’s not fun. I don’t want to play a watered-down version of WoW - my MMO days are over with. I don’t want to have run errands all the time - in a GAME - and try to put lipstick on a pig by pulling the party line by somehow lying to myself that walking around in a somewhat barren world, clicking on plants repeatedly, is what I need to do to have a small feeling of power.

This game is broken. Blizzard forgot what Diablo was all about and instead made a mindless grindfest.

Will life get better? I don’t see much evidence of Blizzard caring anymore. They don’t really engage in the community except to be a cheerleader for posts that promote that somehow, all of these broken mechanics (and crashing), are supposed to be fun.

I guess I just have buyer’s remorse.

D2 is looking more appealing right now.

Blizzard has s formulae for everything by now. How could you expect a corporation to not exploit all those formulas every game. EA does it, 2k does it. etc Go indie or go broke thinking the wheel was reinvented each time.

so true. rogue is the most broken class and yet to be nerfed like barbs. It has become so obvious that i stop playing my 86 barb to go rogue. At least i know they wont kill every built for it. for some obscure reasons. its the only class that 1 shot world boss and still can after devs saw how OP it can be… but nerf ww bard to the ground thats a priority!!!

Maybe it is awful - but therein lies the problem. I shouldn’t be forced into only 1 or 2 viable specs.

Blockquote Your build is awful if you don’t feel strong.

Or the class is awful, I don’t know yet. I run an arc lash build, and used most of the guides online to help me out here. I have some uniques. Frostburn makes my life a lot easier for that melee sorc build.

When I got into W4, this dagger rogue was running around melting stuff at level 84. Ok, there’s scaling, yes. Gear makes a difference, yes - as does everything else. I do fine on NM - a good blend of difficulty based on what I have. But I still don’t feel strong. But I have seen other Sorcs struggle, too, in game and in the sorc forum. There are a lot of unhappy people with the class, and I am certainly one of them.

But, if you’ve got some ideas for sorc at level 70 - Let’s hear em. I’d appreciate some advice, honestly.

Lvl 87 now. Looking to have a shot at the one overtuned lvl 100 boss. Have the renown done. Leveled the sigils. Just 20 more hours of nothing until lvl 100.

Heavily depends on the class. Rogue and necro are decent imo, however most druid, barb and sorc stuff are just boring. One or two sets are decent.

its also worth mentioning that in D3 sets had a “theme” across each character. the aztec looking armor set on witch doctor would be aztec looking on barbarian aswell, though better adjusted to suit said class. This isn’t a thing with D4. With “sets” i mean armor transmogs, not the green rarity set gear.

Completly disagree, dunno where all this is coming from, streamers, guides ? You said it yourself , you dont need build that one shoot everything…just play a game.
I play sorcerer only so far, riped twice(74 and 72), doing third atm - this one will make it to 100  All of them were different builds, working, playable - fun for me.
Only think that little ruined that “sense of consistent forward progress” like you typed were shared paragon system and skill points…since my first HC char finished whole game next two toons had huge advantage with those skill points and on 50 with paragon, so game was rly easy even on veteran.

You are certainly welcome to be satiated given what Blizzard has developed.

But I don’t see it with sorcs.

I really would like to see some evidence of what you say is true - link a video of your toon as a sorc “having fun.”

Then I will take you more seriously.

I’d wager a fair percentage of that was people thinking that Sorcs couldn’t boss, until the video showing how to leverage Blizzards insane stagger value came out. You can splash Blizzard into an ice shards build as well, replacing Meteor (which has no boss value) and replacing your nova enchant with ice bolt to get the value of superior bossing without making too making sacrifices or commitments.

Anyways, just look up frostfire sorc. It’s really good. I can brain-off autopilot NM45 sigils - could probably push higher than that for sure but for brain-off glyph XP farming it’s a very strong build. I basically only ever die against mobs 20 levels higher when I’m not paying attention and there’s something like death pulse or other icky affix on a sigil I jammed without looking at it.

The leveling experience is not fun. I only do it to get to a build I want.

You don’t really feel More powerful as you level up and in hours of grinding you’ll get one or two decent loot drops.

I can barely motivate myself to log in and grind with my main character. I can’t imagine having to do it again every month.

That would be literally “Diablo IV: Hell is Coming” pay blizzard money for a bad experience every season?

Are you kidding? It’s a great engagement tool. At least with Druid. Coming off the horse as a bear and knocking everyone down has been great. Saved a friend’s Sorcerer last night after he got frozen after walking into a pack of elites during a helltide.
