Diablo IV - High GPU VRAM Usage

Hello,

Here are my system specifications:

  • CPU: Ryzen 5600 (All settings at default)
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6700XT 12GB (All settings at default)
  • RAM: 4x8 GB DDR4 3600MHz
  • SSD: WD SN850 PCIE 4.0 500GB NVME
  • Monitor: 2K 27" 170Hz 1ms monitor

In Diablo IV, there seems to be a high VRAM usage issue during gameplay.

Without any FPS limit, I get between 150-170 FPS on ultra settings at 2K resolution. The game utilizes the entire 12GB VRAM. When I set the FPS limit to 75, GPU usage fluctuates between 40-50%, but I still observe VRAM usage to be around 10-11 GB.

Is such high VRAM usage normal?

Does seem normal and consistent amongst players. I have 24GB of VRAM and the game allocates (not sure if it’s using it all) around 16GB - 18GB of VRAM, with all settings maxed out. During betas and around launch it was even more, it used to use like 21.5GB of VRAM.

You can lower VRAM usage by lowering the texture quality but sadly this does affect visuals too much in my opinion. Anything less than “high” makes the game look really really bad.

Yes, unfortunately it was. HD Texture DLC consumes a lot of VRAM. For now, I keep the FPS fixed to 75. I hope it becomes more optimized soon.
