Diablo is a solo game?

You know whats funny to me? i have played diablo since diablo 1 and i never once thought of it as a single player game. I always played on bnet with people. Even when i am soloing, i can still have friends join or whatever. In diablo 2 you used to look for games with more people for more xp and more loot chance.

Well yea, you’re right Diablo in NOT a single player game. Do they have some single player aspects? Yes.

And for ~80% of the playerbase this might be true. Most people play Diablo solo or with some friends in small gorups but still the biggest part of the playerbase is most likely playing solo.

It’s a persistent, shared environment, but the closest I got to multiplayer during the beta was just seeing other people on my screen.

“You can choose to play through the entire game solo — from campaign all the way to end-game — and that will be just as valuable and successful as a way to approach the game, as someone who might choose to group up for the large majority of it.” * - Blizzcon 2019, System and Features.

I played it both ways… d2 Baal runs were just so sad. Took all the fun out of leveling and finding gear… was just so anticlimactic, no danger fear, just xp and loot grab. Solo hardcore hell mode, Duriel is a bad man, still scares me every time I know I’m going to fight him… multiplayer, I only feared the idiot that kites the whole floor to you or dropped a portal to a room where he kited them to.

what are you quoting? Either way it really doesnt matter. if the game can be played solo or multi-player then the game itself is no longer a “Solo” game. it is merely a game.

Optionally Solo … Optionally Co-Op … it’s that simple. Play it either way or both.

It’s not a solo game in the sense that it’s meant to always be played solo. You can just get the highest degree of power in gear progression solo. For instance, in D2, you’re not going to farm Meph with 7 people. Who gets the loot? You farm him solo. Group play is more a novelty to have fun with your character; and you MIGHT snag some loot if you’re quick. Certainly not a loot advantage playing with others.

Total solo game. Can do all content solo but can also choose to do with others.

This is the correct answer.

Diablo, in general has been a bit of both and then some
for the solo player, the group player, the person who plays only with friends.

The concern is for connectivity issues with other players, in the beta, there was multiple things wrong from connecting to another player like : rubber banding (def not good for HC characters) the area i loaded into i had to wait for mobs to spawn either due to another player i had not having good internet or just they killed everything (takes away from every player experience to “wait your turn”) or teleporting enemies either from server stress or other players recently connecting.

Point is, diablo 4 Should have options for multiplayer, either play solo, or have multiplayer on, maybe with a character limit to how many players can connect to you.
There are many people who like to do their own thing in this game as it is a more casual experience compared to what is on the market.

Diablo 2 and 3 had very simple options for online, 2 especially since it was an entirely different mode, and d3 was “private or public” why change that now? D4 should be no different than it’s priors when it comes to these sort of things. Public and Private games should be optional. Specially if you plan on playing hardcore where many of this issues will lead to the death of your characters for reasons you had no power over.

Yeah, dude. People can be so ridiculous.

It’s not like Diablo 2 had 8 PLAYER CONCURRENT CO-OP.

There were tons of multiplayer lobbies when Diablo 2 came out and was being played.

People who say Diablo is a single-player game are wrong. At least, they were wrong. Now however, Blizzard has been making the game more and more single-player - to the detriment of the series. The multiplayer in Diablo 4 is absolutely shallow and pitiful. At least I won’t have to pay for the game now.

You know what’s funny to me? People that don’t get that you could play all previous games solo without people interfering with your activities and act surprised when others just ask for an OPTION to do that again instead of being forcely put in a MMO world they don’t like beacuse, you know, people have different preferences and opinions.

No one sees a problem with this?
Of course not, the years of propaganda have made you oblivious to all the massive contradictions.

And every game is exactly the same. This is why I stopped playing EQ2. This is why I stopped playing World of Warcraft. This is why I stopped playing PoE. And ultimately it is why I won’t be playing Diablo IV.

What am I talking about?
I’m sure no one here cares. The years of indoctrination will make this post too difficult to understand. Multiplayer … in every game we’ve ever played … is designed to circumvent RNG and Difficulty.

Imagine if we could get Multiplayer Slot Machines!
Hey, I just need a Seven. Quick, give me a Seven!
WooHoo! The customer always wins!!!

Yes, it’s a stupid regression in the series. In Diablo 2 you could have a more challenging good romp with up to 8 players at a time - you can’t do that in Diablo 4. You could play completely solo with no one else in Diablo 2 - you can’t do that either in Diablo 4.

Blizzard has fallen so low from how great they once were.

Diablo 1 was factually a single player game first.

Diablo 2 was created with the new battle.net in mind and to give more to the multiplayer experience.

These are confirmed by David Brevik in an interview about it.

There was always an intention to make a Diablo MMO.
