Diablo feels weird with no Holy based Class

I’m not sure if others feel the same but Diablo 2, 3, immortal all had a Holy based class.

D2 - Paladin.
D3 - Monk then Crusader.
Immortal - Monk and Crusader.

Yes, even Immortal had Monk and Crusader.

I understand that the Heavens has closed its gates in D4, but people still have faith and beliefs, this is shown a lot through the main story campaign and side quests. So really adds more confusion that it’s not in the game currently or even at all, Blizzard hasn’t announced that it would be coming in future too.

I just feel like D4 isn’t complete, like it feels like it’s missing a huge archetype that’s been around since D2. To me it just feels like a huge step back.

You’d think D4 would be taking previous archetypes/classes and improving on them for the base game, Druid for example, D2 was an expansion class now it’s in the base game immensely improved, be it a little undertuned but it’s now a core base class.

People are saying it’s most likely a DLC class but it just feels odd, imagine if they made Barbarian a DLC class, it would feel just as odd being that it’s a huge part of Diablo Franchise at it’s core and not being playable on launch.

Diablo 4 apparently is 30 years after the events in Diablo 3, so did all the Monks and Crusaders literally just vanish in 30 years?. Like they all called it quits?.

Anyone else a little disheartened that there isn’t any holy based classes?. No Monk, Holy Knight, Crusader, Paladin or Cleric.

I just feel odd that someone like myself, who played through D2 as Paladin, D3 as Monk & Crusader, let’s be real didn’t touch immortal, but now has to settle for a different class until or if it even comes a Holy based class is available.

I agree, playing a Paladin in D4 would be sweet. Hope they do it at some point.

Like I would feel differently if everyone in the game had abandoned all hope, Faith and Belief was a thing of the past but clearly it isn’t.

You even perform an exorcism with one of the side quests ridding a demon from a child.

I think Blizzard, which I think did an amazing job in D4 really missed the mark on this one.

If nothing else, at least storywise. I always feel weird playing a Diablo game as a Necromancer… helping angels destroy demons… with corpses.

I didn’t enjoy the crusader, but I loved the paladin.

Gotta wait for the expansion / DLC to get your holy class. Sorry bro.

Paladin type ofc. They’re probably lazy enough to call it a paladin too because who wants new classes right

See but that’s even if it comes as a DLC, nothings been set in stone by Blizzard saying it’s even a potential new class which worries me, do I continue to play in hopes in a year or two Paladins even become available??.

There was a reportedly leaked image that has been used for all the character groupings showing a holy looking class with shield and spear.

So… maybe we’re getting something new in, what I’d assume, is the first expansion.

Can’t post links yet >.>

Could be a 3 month later content patch, might even not cost anything. Since I think they said there was a few systems that are suppose to be in “soon” but not at launch.

If your only reason for playing is to play a holy class, then no. Why would you play a game that doesn’t contain the thing you desire?

If the thing you desire comes around, then start playing.

Gimmie a Paladin!! Thx

Very True, I’ve been on the fence currently refunding my pre order, just to me, Diablo 4 is just missing a huge part of its core identity. It doesn’t feel the same.

Like I said imagine if Barbarian wasn’t in the game at launch it would be so weird.

It’s painfully obvious that that’s the first major DLC/expansion. Personally, I love that there’s no holy class right now knowing that it will be added later as the story progresses. It opens up a world that is truly lost to the light…I mean, Vigo’s story arch, the absolute hellish zealot path the ‘light’ is taking without actual access to the light… I love it.

At this rate we’ll get a Zealot class that will have to whip itself to gain resources. The ultimate will be a choice between Feodor or The Light’s Faith Armor. I’m all here for it.

It does feel weird in a few ways. You’d think from a story perspective that the heavens being closed off and all that would prevent these classes from existing but I don’t think that is how it works anyways.

It’s also weird that the first zone we will all go through is filled with basically a zealot group in the entire region for Inarius himself.

You would think a Paladin or Crusader would show up, maybe even an entirely new holy based class(would love something brand new rather than a slightly reworked Paladin or barely updated Crusader).

That’s what I thought, like going through the campaign and side quests, like I mentioned earlier we even perform an exorcism through a holy goblet and successfully did it faith and beliefs are still a huge aspect of the game!.

Faith seems to be stronger than ever in this much darker version of Diablo as well. It was prevalent in so many different side quests as well as the main quest. It truly is baffling, I guess all we can do is hope that its the first expansion class or just something we get for free(I doubt we’ll get it for free lol). Not the best answer but I do feel like it will happen eventually.

Faith is not the light, faith is not holy, and faith is not heaven. Faith is, and in D4 right now is, “complete trust or confidence in someone or something.”. Usually, faith is based in apprehension without proof. But in D4, they have proof…Inarius is literally walking amongst his spawn. He has cured, he has healed, he has acted. They have proof of the unknown bad that will happen, Hell walks Sanctuary right now. So their faith isn’t in the light, it’s in the light specifically through Inarius. They’re worshipping Inarius. And what’s worse is it’s entirely selfish. They worship him based on an assumption that when Inarius is redeemed he will rapture them to Heaven and save them from Hell on Sanctuary. And if you’ve read some lore, that’s who they’ve been worshipping as The Light since the dawn of religion on Sanctuary. The difference is the gates of heaven were open before because they didn’t know to close them in the beginning and then again when they were open due to other circumstances, armistices and whatnot. There was the worldstone granting Inarius power which presumably helped give Sanctuary a connection to Angeltopia but that has been severed, cursed, damned, and destroyed on numerous separate occasions. Just like any evil in the world that has to summon a connection to Hell to gain that power, so too did the Light require a connection to Heaven. The fact is Heaven hates Sanctuary and Inarius’s reaction to us in the cutscene is not an isolated opinion…all of Heaven sees us in this way sans one but…he’s unaccounted for right now.

There’s obviously a huge gap right now until we figure out not only how Inarius got out but also why he does not appear to be a flayed angel skin flappin’ in the wind.

…in non-lore terms it’s called longevity and a hook to keep players in for the long haul. The same could have been said of D3 and Necro/Crusader and likely was.

Developers said they did not want a holy class at launch to focus on the feel of evil gaining ground.

I can live with what we are getting, but yeah, played a lot of Paladin back in D2.

Immortal had monk and crusader BECAUSE Diablo 3 had monk and crusader. It was just reused assets.

Yes bring back the Hammerdin please.
