Diablo creator David Brevik roasts modern ARPGs aka. D4

He is right. It would be nice if more realized it.

He could sell bottled farts and they’d be worth more than you.

Regarding mmo’s when you take a theme park design and put it at the end for retention/sub numbers, of course it’s gonna be hard to sell the trip there. Then Blizz designs Diablo max level same as wow it’s not gonna be much different. People care about the theme park not the drive to it.

I still like the leveling aspect. D:I had a feature that lets you restart any quest you’ve ever done if you want to replay it. I don’t see why D4 can’t be made to allow you to do the campaign again at max level/max difficulty. Heck let it scale like pit if you wanted to.

Marvel Heroes failed harder then any other ARPG.

who cares what Brevik says or thinks?

Cant people have their own opinion? enjoy d4 or dont. Easy stuff.

Its really just the same as these “asmongold said XYZ - Threads”. It just doesnt matter.

I mean OP dislikes D4 since far over a year by now. Do you constantly google to reassure yourself that you are allowed to not like d4?

The funny part of this thread is all the TROLLS Claiming D4 is PERFECT,

Without Flaws making it the natural choice over Path of Exile 2

In spite of the Fenris issues and all the other bugs and flaws!:person_facepalming:

All the ignoring the personal preferences and or dislikes people have for

D4’s like spamming weak undesired skills/spells so you can use/cast one

Strong one. BTW That’s one of the worst parts of D3, D4 Implemented

By the never too strongly detested Jay Wilson "Spamming One Spell Is

Not Fun!" BTW Guys, They may claim he’s gone but he’s not

Blobby Kotex hired him back as an independent contractor thru

His company, Gas Giant Games,

Too work on Diablo 3, Diablo Immortal, Diablo 4 and now we know why

And how they turned out the way they did

:unamused:

who said that? feel free to quote the post o.o

He’s right. This mindless style of arpg has no depth or longevity. It’s just tuning in to zoom zoom max everything in a couple of weeks and onto the next thing. He’s been working on a new game for a while. Interested to see how it turns out

Yeah, so what if he conceived of and drove the creation of Diablo and defined a genre. I mean all he has done since then is head several studios, make his own game and now he’s just a co-lead of a publisher helping indie devs bring their games to market.

What a slacker why should we care what he says right?

I do enjoy D4 for what it is, but i also find it lacking. It is perfectly possible and valid to play D4, have fun doing it, and still agree that the direction of modern ARPGs is largely pewp.

The main and possibly only thing I do agree with Brevik on is most definitely, without a doubt, the journey cheapened and shortened.

I say it all the time but it’s crazy to me how a player base like this one tries so hard to NOT want to play the game.

Leveling? Nah the community doesn’t wanna do that.

Grind for your loot? Nah the community doesn’t wanna play the game that much.

Have any form of challenge? Nah the community is afraid of that and would just rather the mobs disappear in thin air with a one hit, leading in to not playing the game as much.

Basically anything that has to do with playing the game, the community wants so hard to skip it.

Exactly this… They make the journey so meaningless that people don’t want to play it and just want to race to max power only to find out there is nothing to do once you get there. Then they justify further ripping out any thought, meaning or challenge form it by pointing out that people just want to get to the end…

I think they came away from initial player feedback with the completely wrong conclusion. The idea that people don’t want a D2 like experience is patently wrong as highlighted by people flocking to another game that promised this. I find it misguided that they went straight to questioning the idea of returning to a more D2 like experience rather than examining their initial implementation of it in D4.

is D4 entertaining? sure it can be… is D4 engaging and compelling? LOL no.

It was claimed D4 is better than PoE 2

That’s close enuff as I’m concerned, As they both have Flaws & bugs

One of D4’s biggest being the Fenris or Memory bug, And PoE 2 not

Having it’s equivalent

Ah so you are making stuff up again, since noone said d4 is perfect.

Why does it bother you if people prefer d4 over poe2?

I don’t, I do have issues with people claiming D4 is good while this is

Going on

And again there’s that Spamming weak undesired skills/Spells to

Use/Cast one strong desired skill/spell, Jay Wilson pushed on
