Diablo could be soo much better (open world rant)

imagine. world events like strongholds taken over by demons

cellars with goblins, that acually drop portall to king of goblins

random encounters you can go solo and get nice reward

this game overall is lacking a soul. there is nothing much to do in open world

each zone should have boss you can go after for loot

my idea is, after only fanatics left in the church of light
and reverant mother prava is unknown
let us have something in this world
this grimmy world,

let us have hideout like in poe ?

we need a hub. btw , when Malphas will return ?

Agree. Goblins are not fun. They were in D3. Cellars are useless. Open world forgotten except helltide. Devs are just not taking risks. Playing it ultra safe.

indeed.

watching a goblin on my path im rather sad than excited …

even with this “event” god forsaken loot from them ?
i didnt even want to engage.

this is my 1 point. we need something to engage with

i feel like cellars is the worst left over feature of all
cant even call it a feature to be hones
probably people just forget it

I think the d4 we have now is setting the basic foundation for what’s to come. They can’t put us in hell right away if this is going to be a 3 expansions series. Im sure vessel of hatred will be the beginning of the real dark side of things.

Nonsense. Nothing about interesting content demands we start in hell and go from there, the setting can change while the intensity doesn’t.

The game has been out for a year, they don’t get a free pass for “setting the tone” open-ended. Helltides now are good, but the rest of the open world might as well not exist.

I agree Urza , but more of an open world does open new options in exploration too wanderer . Risky , possibly, but not boring. definitely intriguing and unlocks the door for an infinity of content ,and an imagination of endless encounters… Intriguing when you think about it isn’t it lol…

you would think things like world bosses would be in the main areas. the closest we got is the roaming insect thing during helltides. More like that would be nice. instead they put them in an arena like area. kinda boring.

idk about goblins, personally they were never fun, they should just make them way rare and with guaranteed unique.
But yeah you are completly right - open world lost all its purpose, idk what was even the point to introduce it.

D4 has rapidly devolved since launch in regards to RPG elements. It was a 5/10 and now is down to a 1.5/10. All they’ve done is remove more and more “boring” RPG elements to the point you now have an extremely efficient, yet soulless game. It’s like opening MS Excel. How fun is that?

This. I think very much this. I struggle to understand where the hell this comes from in gaming. How many pieces of crap have they put in a business hierarchy to cause gaming to become soulless?

Given how the community reacts to anything they perceive as “bad”, can you blame them?

I honestly think the problem with seasons is they have to keep churning out new mechanics and changing stuff then regurgitating the for all intents and purposes the same stuff over and over again.

I get the ARPG crowd wants their seasons but it kinda seems like they are never happy and talk about how they are going to ditch with PoE 2 comes out.

I’ve said it before but I honestly think Blizzard should refocus on eternal realm and consider the possibility with a micro mmorpg world. Start adding things that are more RP in scale. Like the OP said.

  • Do something more with strongholds like a 24 hour capture and it turns into like temp player housing and you defend it as some form of survival game.

  • Those little cellar mini dungeons could be actual player housing. You pick one out and then you can decorate it like in LostArk with their stronghold. Only it would service some kind of purpose that keeps players engaged. Maybe turn it into your own mini dungeon where that cellar becomes yours and you can gear NPC followers to protect it and dress them up. Setup a tavern or something and have a public venue. Add levels to it.

  • open world bosses could be actual real raid bosses and not these 5 second kills when people get OP geared. Like maybe rescale it or auto scale somehow in such a way where the fight has some length to it. Maybe phases where the boss retreats to a different part of the zone and the players have to go run to find them and the mechanics change, the landscape changes. etc.

Those are just a few ideas. Me personally, I love Diablo franchise but I always said, a MMOPRG called Sanctuary would be where it’s at. And they have this unique situation where they don’t quite have a fully fleshed out MMO but for being a ARPG i think they could do like a micro version and still make it fun. Kinda like V Rising but not quite a survival game.
