I am a 100% casual player, I bought D4 + VoH, I wanted to play peacefully for the atmosphere, the story and exploring the world, I entered the game, the second suggested quest and boom I am at level 50, everything is broken, 100000000 exp + currencies - the game is broken, you can’t reset the world, the whole map and alters are revealed - total crap - money down the drain - it’s as if for new Windows users there was an icon on the desktop after a new installation called “upgrade disk”, which would actually format the system - totally hopeless interface, no clear information and warnings considering the importance of the changes that accepting Character Boost causes - a complete change of the game hidden under a standard quest, there are such bonuses in every game, but they give some gems, currency and armor, temp exp boost etc., in Diablo a regular quest overwrote the account - Blizzard do something about it! will you enable resetting/cloning the account or map/world! I am very disappointed, $$$ wasted 
I’m writing to those “learn to read” smart alecks right away - games are for everyone, if I wanted to study miniscule information and EULA I would choose a different game, and believe me, my job is to study law and regulations, but that’s not what I expect from a AAA video game, I expect clean and friendly “idiot proof” interface

You can still play the campaign, though. If not with this character, just make a new one.
There have been plenty of complaints like this and they go unnoticed by blizzard, as far as i can tell. This sets the right expectations for you. The game is plagued with sloppy implementation of poorly thought-out ideas.
The game is no longer about the things you feel you missed out on. You can start a new character and play the game from the beginning. The bonuses from the statues are just the base character power now. Revealing the map isn’t going to change anything. There’s no wow factor in revealing it yourself.
So you can play the game for what it now is… or cut your losses and move on to a better developed game.

And it is. You get a warning box with a dismiss button, that warns you. If you automatically clicked it it’s your fault…
There’s also plenty of posts about it here in the forum, a lot of information on webpages, in the D4 site…
What else is needed?
Glowing lights? A burning screen stating don’t go there?

As much as I can feel the OPs and others pain who have experienced this Boost Boon & Curse.
Tiny Story:
I left D4 prior to VoH(Sept-ish).
For irl as well as VoH Campfire~Rodamap reasons…I just wasn’t on board with things.
That being said…
I returned a few days ago and Downloaded & Launched VOH.
In the Game Screen - iirc prior to Character Creation - There’s an Explicit Description of the NEW BOOST FEATURE - with a Multi-Panel 
clear description and explanation of the newly available Boost feature.
Initially I assumed this didn’t exist(based on the other users complaints) - was that the case? was this added or has it always been there?
I mean from what I saw it was announced with bells and whistles clear as day that this feature exists.
Granted I never interacted with the Quest NPC.
