I’m playing D4 on PC using a standard wireless Xbox Core controller connected directly to my motherboard via bluetooth (no adaptor)
Almost every time I access my inventory after a few seconds the game will stop registering my controller inputs entirely and the only way to fix it is to set a different window active, and tab back into D4. Simply activating kb/m doesn’t work, I have to physically set another window active on my PC and come back to D4, which activates kb/m controls and resets anything I was doing with the controller. It’s incredibly frustrating because it happens very frequently and it means I can’t sit back and relax with a controller, I have to constantly be ready to access my keyboard and mouse. I haven’t seen anyone else with this exact issue and its driving me insane. Controller works, it doesn’t have this issue in other games, I tried disconnecting and re-syncing to my motherboard, I’ve updated the controller via Xbox Accessories app, I have updated drivers, I tried closing Steam, I don’t have Nividia GeForce Experience installed. Controller has never had issues before D4. The issue existed in the beta and the server slam.
I have no idea how to diagnose this any further because it literally only happens in D4 and it happens to commonly that I can’t tell what specifically triggers it (seems to happen extremely often in the inventory but it’s happened in other interfaces as well). When connected via USB-C it doesn’t seem to happen nearly as often but I do recall it happening once or twice.
I also have this issue.
The only workaround I have found is to use a usb cable to use the controller wired, which seems to resolve the issue, but obviously defeats the purpose of using a wireless controller.
I’ve had and reported this issue several times since the very first beta. Apparently, Blizzard doesn’t think this high priority bug is an issue. Instead of spending their time on fixing really bad bugs like this, they choose to waste it on nerfing classes. Super unprofessional.
Same Problem here with 8BitDo Ultimate Controller (2.4 Ghz Wireless).
in the menu, when you switch from keyboard input to controller, you see the button labels change to xbox controller, but no input possible except via keyboard.
Like to mention in steam no problems at all.
my ps4 controller only works when plugged in, i have tried it unplugged in other games and it works fine, even diablo immortal. when i try to play diablo 4 it doesnt work sadly unless i plug it in constantly. blizz plz fix
My current fix for this issue is to unplug my gaming keyboard before starting windows or waking the PC. Once the PC is on I turn on the controller and make sure it connects. Then I can plug the keyboard back in and I am good to go. My gaming keyboard, a wooting, is getting recognized by windows as a controller of sorts and I believe this is what is messing up. It thinks the keyboard is the gamepad somehow.
I was in this topic looking for information, looked behind me and noticed my Hitbox was plugged in. Went ahead and unplugged it and the controller started working
So I guess a basic solution for oblivious people like me would be to start by unplugging potential conflicting devices. Other controllers, racing wheels, fight sticks, etc. Dude above mentions his gaming KB so maybe it plays mean with certain elaborate keyboards too?
Not sure if it’s the same issue, but it was happening to me and closing Steam fixed the problem. The problem it turned out, was that Steam (Settings/Controller/Enable Steam Input for XBox Controllers) was turned on.
By closing Steam, I could reset my controls in D4 (and they would work again), and after turning off that toggle in Steam Settings, D4 would work properly again if Steam was running.
Hope this helps someone else. It was driving me batty
This was the issue I had - another controller plugged in at the same time. Unplugging the other controller and turning my 8bitdo pro2 off and on again resolved it!
