Diablo 4 pricing and multiplayer questions

Hello Blizzard fans,

I have been a fanboy of Blizzard for ages. It all started almost 30 years ago with Warcraft 2 and since then i played Starcraft, Diablo 2, World of Warcraft, Diablo 3 and played the Diablo 4 beta on PS5.

I have several questions in regards to Diablo 4 on PS5 that I just can’t understand.

1/ Why is this game 10$ more expensive than all the other games?
2/ On PS5, if we buy a disk version why can’t we resell it later on like any other disk game?
3/ Why do they force PS5 users to subscribe to a Playstation Plus membership, adding an extra 60$ per year for us to play this game on PS5? I don’t want to play multiplayer, I just wanna play my solo Diablo 4.

Blizzard is asking A LOT of money from their users to play on PS5: 80$ + 60$/year, why ?!

I think those decisions made by Blizzard will cause a lot of loyal fans to boycott future games.

  1. Inflation plus the fact games have been cheap for far too long with cost included. Games, if compared to 1997 prices, should cost more like $100 if we go full out inflation based.

  2. I think you can but you just lose access to the game of course, not entirely sure.

  3. Because it’s an always online game. There is no solo mode. You can’t pause the game either.

  1. Because game prices are going to 70$. This is just apparently the first you’ve noticed.

  3. That is Playstation’s fault, not Blizzard’s.

It’s only 70$ and most people who play on PS5 will already have a PS plus subscription.

  2. the resell hasnt really changed. Diablo 3 you mentioned , I bought the disk but to play the disk had to be in the PS console. if you sold it you wouldnt be able to play it as you didnt have the disk anymore.
  3. this is just not Ps5 its Ps4 as well, its an online game now so the consoles take advantage of that by charging to be online, PC’s i believe do not have that extra charge.

I bought the game for $70. Not sure why it says $80 for you.

Regarding PS plus membership, they usually have a 25% off sale around Black Friday. Just buy it then for 45 and it will tack on a year to your expiration date. I bought 3 of them and I’m set until 2026

The game costs 80€ in Europe for PS5, that’s 86$ actually, not sure why US companies always need to rip off their European customers.

About not being able to resell the disk version of the game. I understand the disk works as a key and as soon as you sell your disk you can’t play anymore, that’s normal. But apparently you can’t even do that, the disk will be useless to the new owner as it’s forever linked to your battlenet account from what i understood.

  1. If you look at the branding on the PS4 version of Diablo 3, you will know on the back it shows blizzard. I asked if there was a reason that the PS5 version was $10 more than the other games to the clerk at gamestop, and they didn’t have an answer. I looked at the back of the box to compare it to Diablo 3 and noticed on the base copy of the PS5 version it shows Activision. so i guess they are just charging a $premium just because.

  2. Generally the disk is the license to play a game on console.

it looks like they might have put a UUID ( Unique Unit Identifier ) on the disk, that once read and logged in is activated and tied to the account, making the disc non transferable. [ could it be they offer a cd-key?!?! ]

Playstation plus is a Sony charge, consider it a support fee for using ( Sony’s servers / network infrastructure ) and social platform. consider it a tax to enable networking features / capabilities on consoles. Buy it when black Friday is on to save yourself money. [ PlayStation Plus 12 Month - Black Friday 2021 Promo [Di… normally 69.99 cad is 46.99 ] on amazon. might be cheaper on black friday at other locations. so you can 5 or 6 months and that will tide you over to the sale of the card.

Are you sure that forcing people to use PS Plus is something Sony decides? Why do Fortnite or Diablo 4 beta for example, do not need a PS Plus subscription?

I really dont understand why people make blatant baseless comments about PS plus subscriptions.

Fortnite is free to play, as was the D4 beta.

Also DezasteR beat me to the part where you don’t need PS+ to play still.

So yes, you can play Diablo 4 solo without the need of a PS+ subscription, that’s GREAT NEWS :slight_smile:

Why can’t Blizzard be more clear about what is needed or not needed to play the game, it’s really bad communication.
