Diablo 4 "Overheating" my Xbox series X

This has been happening to me for 2 weeks. It crashes when in town or doing events while playing and goes to the Xbox dash. Happened like 15 times already. The fan kicks in in certain areas of the game and it quiets down in other areas. If I open and just look at the map, my fan goes quiet again.

Other games seem to be ok. I’ve gotten the overheating message 3 times so far on the Xbox and it shut down my console once. Not sure why this game is stressing the console. Things I have tried, as recommended by many:

  1. I blew out any dust just to make sure. (Super Clean)
  2. Re-installed the game twice.
  3. Did a console/cache reset.
  4. Did a factory reset.

Any ideas? Only this game. It was not like this on launch. An update did this.

Are you getting booted to hole screen with green everything?

Thats what happens to me. Diablo 4 started this. 400 hours on elden ring, zero issues. 200 hours in no mans sky, subnautica, and more and zero issues. Diablo 4- crash and green screen until reboot.

My xbox gets so hot that even with the ac on and a fan blowing into the xbox intake that my wife cant sit in the room and watch. Literally. She has to leave.

Sounds like you two have bad series x’s. As what you describe isnt happening to anyone else i know. Normally thats a ventilation issue or hardware issue like the fan is dieing.

I don’t know the name of it but I bought a cooler for my Series X on Amazon for like $30.

Just pops onto the top and comes with a digital temp gauge. Once it goes over 100 the fan kicks on keeps it from frying eggs.

The fan isn’t whisper quiet but it doesn’t detract. Maybe give that a go.

Good luck.

No green screen ,just straight up back to the Xbox dashboard.
The fan is on high it seems nonstop, like max settings.
If I look at the world map ,the fan calms down back to normal.
Even certain parts of the options menu will calm down the fan.

Again I play a lot of games and this is the only game doing this. It was ,not like this when I got the game.

Every computer has a max temp that they shutdown at ,to not cause serious issues to the hardware. Xbox is no different. You’ll get a message and the console will shut itself totally off.

I have an X aswell and its Its not overheat. If it was overheating you would see a popup screen that tells you its overheating and will close game or shutdown to protect itself from damage.

This is more of a graphics memory leak. It has gotten better with the last majot patch.

I’m having a similar issue, where my Xbox Series X overheats and just shuts completely off, and ONLY happens with Diablo IV. My console is only three months old, kept clean and ventilated.
It feels as though it didn’t begin to happen until I beat the campaign and changed to Tier 3. Again, no other game has done this, and it appears to happen more often when I’m in the middle of a fight. I can barely finish a dungeon before it goes out.

Mines doing the same thing after 1.1.1 update my xbox fan has been going wild and overheating. Havent been able to play the game for more than 15 to 20 minutes tops at a time without it kicking me to homescreen with the your system is overheating message popping up. Ive cleaned all vents and blew anything that might have been stuck out. Im even setting it on a bag of ice to see if that helps and still over heats only when playing diablo 4.

Update: I have to get my console fixed, it started overheating in other games as well. I’m just now back to playing again.

Sorry to hear that; I hope you have a warranty on it so it can be replaced for free. Aside from basic maintenance, it almost sounds like a manufacturing issue. A friend of mine has the same issue with her Xbox; Diablo makes her console run very high and hot. She had to change the graphic settings to “medium” for everything and that worked. However, she is going to turn in her Xbox for a new one because she purchased a 4 year warranty on it; she wants to see if a brand new Xbox will have the same issue with the game.

You may wanna see about replacing the fan or getting a cooling system added to it.

Also, airflow and location plays a big role into cooling.

I personally have mine not standing up with nothing restricting the air flow, but i have recently purchased (not installed yet cuz lazy) a wall mount for it which includes a aux fan to help. Grabbed it in amazon for $45.

May wanna start there. I would also open up a support ticket with microsoft. They may be able to help.

Good luck!
