I played Diablo 4 during beta. My computer was not right the after the Server slam. It crashed and froze all the time after that. It finally died last night. I have read other stories of it killing graphics cards. Any one else have this issue. I love the game but it seems to be hard on PC’s
Turning on vsync and limiting fps reduces gpu stress.
I play this game on medium on the steamdeck with good temps at 60fps Im pretty sure it was just your hardware and not the game
What kind of videocard was it, and brand.
I played the betas and slam on a RTX2060 with 6gb ram and had no problems.
If the game was going to brick any system, it would have been that.
But without more details on what your system is composed of, we can’t even guess if the game had anything to do with it.
But so far a search brings up a handful of posts saying people had system bricking.
Sorry to hear about your computer. I always replace thermal paste after the warranty of my GPU expires, and the CPU every 2-3 years, keep track of my temps, ensure fans are working and AIO is pumping properly at least once a week and have never had issues.
Sometimes you get a faulty piece of hardware, at which point you need to go to the manufacturer to address it, not the software company that triggered it, because at the end of the day, the root cause is the hardware, not the software.
The only time I ever did was when I had a 2 core CPU and dedicated both to run a VM with a CPU that had 5 year old thermal paste. That thing died instantly!
Sometimes, there’s a fault in GPUs or other hardware and it doesn’t come to light until something (from software) happens to trigger it.
Here’s some info about the Diablo thing, feel free to obtain some knowledge on it, as well as other manufacturer’s mishaps:
its trendy to blame the games for no reason since newworld i guess.
ppl have no clue. to the point where the games feel obligated to add options like “cap cinematics at 30” lol
your card is supposed to shut itself down way before damage can be done. if it didnt its a manufacturer’s fault. not the game.
these posts should be made on the manufacturer’s forum. not here.
put pressure where it needs to be put.
The game wasn’t killing cards. Certain cards had a flaw that the game’s code happened to make much worse. It happened with another game last year too. New World I think? Most cards were fine but a certain brand had something wrong with with it that the game just happened to prey upon. I haven’t noticed any odd behavior myself since I started playing it. My 2080 Ti is handling it just fine, temps never budge out of the green. Obligatory knock on wood because eff buying a new card in today’s market.
Been monitoring temps on my 4070ti ASUS TUF, never broke 65 even after hours of play. Prior to that I played on a gigabyte 3070ti during the initial beta and server slam and didn’t have a problem.
I have read a glut of posts of peoples videocards dying from gigabyte to non gigabyte. Sorry this happened to you, hope you can RMA it or have it repaired somehow. Anyone buying a new videocard, try getting one with decent warranty, mine came with 3 years. As for gigabyte, never again from all the posts ive read.
I have a 3090ti and never had issues in any game with this card before I started playing this at 4k 60 fps ultra settings.
After 4 client crashes and 2 blue screens, I turned my settings down to 1080p. And turned my fans way up. Going on 5 days now not a single client crash even.
That’s sad for a 3090ti to have to lower itself to 1080p, u shouldn’t have to do that. what temps were u getting during crash?
You’re telling me, every other game runs beautifully. This one was too for a while. But the days it happened were actually pretty hot in the room the machine is in also.
Honestly after the client crashed the temps looked normal, impossible to check at the blue screens.
But I have seen this before on older cards. Usually from overheat the driver throws an exception and fails and then the game cannot recognize the hardware anymore. I have also seen issues with faulty nVidia Drivers in the past.
My temps are usually at 34C and under load they hit about 60-65 tops. For games I have bothered to check.
I did have my background FPS limited to 60 in 4k. Now I have them both locked there and Vsync on. I just wanted to see if the client crashes continued with it set restrictively.
Everything is still on Ultra.
I will try 4k again in a few days at slightly lower settings to see if it returns.
This. EVGA 3090’s and maybe 80’s had a flaw that New World happened to expose. Now, Diablo is exposing flaws in Gigabyte cards. It’s hardware problem, not software. Blame Gigabyte not only for that but also their flimsy PCB’s that are cracking and Gigabyte won’t replace.
Your GPU had a pre-existing issue, such as the failsafes not working and/or other issues. Games can’t fry your GPU unless your own hardware is faulty to begin with.
If you own a pc to play games, it’s your responsibility to monitor your fps, and limit the fps if it is running too high. Anyone with a 30 or 40 series card should be running MSI which can easily display your fps.
It’s built into Diablo, actually. CTRL-R will bring it up. Do it again to see your ping.
People need to remember that correlation is not causation. Just because one event precedes the other or just because two events happen simultaneously doesn’t necessarily mean that one caused the other.
It’s not enough to just have two events correlated to one another, you also have to explain how it supposedly caused your hardware to malfunction. Until someone can actually explain how this game caused any hardware to malfunction, it’s all just empty claims.
People also shouldn’t assume that hardware manufacturers don’t cheap out or completely mess up regularly because they do. I’ve personally bought an MSI prebuilt that had a two 8-pin CPU connector MOBO with one of the 8-pin CPU connectors not even plugged in. It was not noticeable or visible at all unless you removed the radiator on top. There are all kinds of problems that manufacturers try to hide or cheap out on like that. I turned the once prebuilt into a beast by upgrading multiple parts myself and thoroughly checking it myself. Manufacturers like MSI still make good parts but you really need to hold them accountable because they can do unethical things too.
No need to monitor FPS… I run this game at a solid 240 FPS and my GPU never gets to dangerous levels of heat because I have a good cooling system for my GPU. You can press ctrl+r in-game to see your FPS, and why would I run the game under 240 FPS when my monitor is 240Hz?
I have a 3080 Founders Edition and it’s held steady through all the betas and release. The fans ramp up to a ridiculous level and it gets hot in the office without the fan going, but the hardware keeps on keeping on.
Got two rigs, two copies of the game. One has the game playing just fine on an Nvidia 960, 7700 generation Intel, 32GB RAM. YEAH. A 960! I can’t believe it. Works great at 1080p.
While it is possible that D4 is responsible for your issues, it is highly unlikely. It is more probable that Server Slam/D4 is what you were playing when your hardware finally failed.
