i played Raiden V for a while, and found that Diablo 4 has so much similarities.
same quest dialogue storytelling,
same no brainer shoot everything that moves,
same lack of stat point distribution,
same fast pace blasting,
same explosion visual here and there,
same fixed firepower upgrades,
same attack switching between AOE and boss fights,
and same ultimate skill activation.
essentially, if a game doesn’t allow players to distribute stat points freely when leveling to grow their character, don’t market it as ARPG.
It all started when they made the decision to have scaling zones and armor. You don’t feel like you are part of an escalating conflict and making a difference. It is shallow and brainless. That is why everyone left.
I think you mean a Diablo-like ARPG, as ARPG itself is a rather vague genre umbrella encompassing a lot of different niche genres. Zelda games are typically considered ARPGs and don’t allow you to allocate stats for example (although Zelda 2 for NES did).
Keep in mind, while I disagree with your assessment of what a Diablo-like ARPG should or shouldn’t do, I’m not going to argue against your opinion on the matter. Just to note that there are multiple sub-genres under the ARPG umbrella.
So if you would like to call D4 a Diablo-like ARPG Arcade experience, that makes perfect sense to me based off of your own definition. I’m not sure that changes anything personally speaking, but you’re allowed to call it whatever you please.
Copy paste D3 is what ppl wanted even the non vocal ones. Model lasted them 10 years D4 will be the same and with the cash shop there easily going to make buck. Why would they change from something clearly bringing them in money
D2 was also still alive even without the remaster.
So If thats the Argument Go for d2 instead of D3.
But i rather would See that D4 has ITS own identity. Which IT dies Not have. I think so far the the Thing D4 IS known for IS that IT IS the Most controversial Diablo Game.
I completely agree. I have argued that Blizzard should have treated this game as a separate IP and named this “Lilith v1”, have that be an Arpg and done right for some to create a true Diablo 2 sequel which would have been a small lower case aRPG.
D3 was a complete and utter disappointment, and I thoroughly believe it helped give POE1 a chance (and not just because it was free). Popular among some to claim D3 improved with the release of its expansion, I would argue that by that time most Diablo players had left the game and a new generation merely replaced. Those of the ADHD hyped up teens that needed the screen vomit FX for their built up frustrations.
What Blizzard has done now in two releases is gives us sardines, yet promoted and promised a chef cooked sirloin. It is an action emphasized screen vomit of FX, but beyond that it is a combination of poor decision making and emptiness, just shallow to the core. The emphasis has been placed on the immediate, the action and FX with very little below.
exactly, the more i blast through the terrains, the stronger the arcade feel gets, making me feel like i’m crisscrossing time and space between playing raiden, 194x, desert strike, jungle strike … etc.
This is why I don’t rate S2 and S4 as high as others
S2 brought in endless blasting instead of steady progress, and S4 despite new itemization brought in what should never have been brought in the game (the Pit i.e. GR 2.0)
IF you look at the top builds for POE 2 then you can say the same thing. The entire genre has semi morphed into a pew pew look at me with 57 powerups blasting entire screen arcade game.
You mean by being AFK in the Pit while other people are carrying you? Or AFK in Infernal Hordes for the free mats? Or AFK at the World Boss for free loot? That’s the journey that many players take - AFK until you get the gear you need to pew pew.
no, i didn’t. or do you think a player like Mekuna would AFK? i am using his Shockuna build, though.
in fact, i even advise others to first get a 750 passive amulet or enchant an 800 amulet with 1 GA passive, so they have another passive on it while pursuing for the 1 in 5000 chance of an endgame amulet with 2 GA passives pew pew, which is exactly my scenario.
