Diablo 4: Fun vs. Complaints - Why Do Players Stay?

That’s an interesting assumption of yours. I doubt it’ll get you anywhere but I digress.

For me, I do complain but I don’t stay “loyal” to D4. I think the Diablo franchise as a whole is much bigger and deserves much better.

welcome back Vuko, short break did the trick

True, but when it comes to Blizzard, one kinda should expect that their PR are at best unreliable, and you need to read a bit between the lines. Often the stuff that matters the most is what they are not talking about.

Yeah, that was definitely one of the things I took notice of in their blog posts.
As glad I as I were that they added inherent affixes to the items at all, it was still a very shallow version.

It is likely a safe bet that most people do this.

Personally, a few weeks ago I stumbled upon one of the best turnbased games I have played in recent time. Which surprisingly also had a lot in common with Diablo. A nice skill web, crafting your own skills PoE style, randomzied gear with interesting build options. Wild build synergies to optimze for. In relation to D4, also a very dark world.
For years I have argued that a turn-based Diablo game could be amazing, and then some random unknown devs show up and prove it. Lovely.
Hard to miss Diablo in the current gaming landscape. So many quality games out there. Still, I do wish Diablo would manage to turn around.

All I am saying is that I knew what I was getting based on all the information at hand. If you didnt, you should probably really question why. This isnt hard.

What is the name of this game? I was really into Disciples 2 back in middle school. It was also a turn based game.

Putting 500 hours into anything that’s not fun is just baffling. That’s 13 weeks for 40 hours a week. Unless you’re getting paid to review a game a few hours max is all it’s worth. I’ve stopped playing games after 2 hours and never looked back.

My best guess for the motivations:

25% - Boredom
25% - Legit Social Interaction
35% - Attention and Trolling
15% - They need outrage outlets to maintain their delusions of righteous knowledge/superiority and perceived slights upon thier person. a.k.a mental disorders

Lol, all those apply to actually playing the game too. lmao

i stopped playing about a week ago!

put in about 30-50hour into season 4

its like this every season the devs tie a knot onto a hook! just one knot and every season they add another knot except season 3

now season 4 its like your the fish and you took the bait

and as d4 devs real you in the knot breaks and the hook is still in your mouth!!!

d4 season 4 scratches the itch but leaves you with scars

over all i enjoyed the season until masterworking and temper fails

and the lack of builds

You’re thinking too much into it.

You can visit your favorite restaurant every week for your favorite dish yet still complain about something about the experience that you just don’t like, such as the air-con not being strong enough, or the BGM doesn’t fit the atmosphere, or the eating utensils sometimes aren’t washed properly.

There is no conflict in complaining about parts of something you like.

It’s not an all-or-nothing affair.

Complaining doesn’t mean 0 fun. There are definitely horrific, bad, game ruining experiences that they are complaining about though. Things which could be easily fixed. the forums need negativity and complaining so things get done.

If you just white knight the game it’s going to stay bad.

Personally for me. It’s ultimately about my enjoyment. Entertainment is subjective so why bother trying to convince others.
I don’t begrudge complaints as long as they are not hyperbolic as that serves nothing. I have been on the end of many complaints regarding the path of this game. But I am currently happy with the direction and attention they are showing this game.
As it stands, I have very much seen a fantastic return on my initial investment considering how many hours played. A lot of games cap out in a couple of hundred hours of entertainment and that is probably too gracious of an estimate to be fair.
I am looking forward to seeing what comes down the road for D4!

I came to the conclusion that grinding for multiple late nights in a row for a decent piece of rng then hoping that I get a decent rng on the first temper then hoping I get a decent rng for the second temper is just not fun so I’m quitting lol. I think if you hang around just to complain then you might not have much of a life outside of this game. If it sucks to you (which tempering does to me) then stop playing. Some people are just natural whiners.

only speaking for myself. All your approve points are true to a point, but the reason for me is simple, the game offers more enjoyable than unenjoyable. So i play anyway. If it didn’t i wouldn’t play at all. Not all complaints are equal also, most are either a desire for perfection, personal quirks i like from other games, or passionate vision to what i feel would make the game even more fun, if it was fun at all, i wouldn’t complain.

There isn’t alot of choice when it comes to isometric arpgs, that are solid. That is why alternative pleasures are there and i play them, but like all art forms, sometimes i want visual blockbusters and sometimes i want lord of the rings or even something completely different.

The genre has appeal, and diablo set a standard, in the genre and people want that.
So yes i do play other games more that are meeting the standards and above, but most if not all are in different sub genres or genres, so they while near perfect and hitting all the right notes, are still a different flavour. and sometimes you want a different paddle pop even though your favourite is chocolate.

MOST of us have not reached the end point where mastwork is the only way to get upgrades. There is plenty of fun and upgrades to be had until you have sunk a ton of hours and reached the top of the iceberg. And only a small percentage is there.

You need to factor in a lot players play the game for the sake of complete the game objectives, like how we play may other games. It is like you order a lunch and found that it doesn’t taste amazing, most likely you will complete the plate as long as it doesn’t taste disgusting. What you will do is just remind yourself don’t order this food again next time, and maybe provide the honest feedback to the restaurant.

The complaint you read in this forum will not represent the whole picture as there are tens of million players and you only saw maybe hundreds of complaint posts. Millions of player may have quit, or complained in social media which you may not notice.

The game has very good potential and most criticism comes from a good place. Players want the game to be the best it can be and offer a good ARPG experience. A lot of the older players where teenagers during D2 and adore the franchise and world Blizzard has created. That’s they people stay even though the current D4 team have made some questionable decisions regarding game direction.

The 80th Anniversary of D-Day is in just a couple days when a generation of American, British and Canadian men charged headlong towards machine gun nests, seized the beaches of Normandy, and ultimately defeated the N@zis.

This generation cry’s about bricking a virtual item and how hard pit bosses are. Sad…

Ya they had bigger concerns, not video games 2 of my uncles fought in ww2,gone but knew them well.
