Diablo 4 Druid Disappointment

Diablo 4 druids in character creation are a dissapointment… I have to point out how druids in Diablo 2 looked and I believe they were more in line with the idea of a celtic druid. The new druid look is like a linebacker… Also the animations while shape shifting are a major let down as they just look like a linebacker running in a mascot suit. In Diablo 2 (as ancient as it is) the movement animations were better. When you turned into a wolf in d2 your character would start using all four limbs to run, as your limbs would elongate. It was a kind of creepy animation but it fit well with the feel of the game… druid animations in d4 just seem clumsy, and the shapeshifting just doesn’t have that same supernatural impact it did before. I know blizzard isn’t big on giving a lot of customizability for characters, but being stuck at one body type is ridiculous. Some people probably like the new druid look but I’d much prefer the option of the old druid look, and something more reminiscent of the d2 shapeshifting movement that just had such a better feel to it, actually like a wolf or werewolf

the males are fine except they could use another face preset and another hairstyle because most of hairstyles for the males druids are horrible except for the one everyone and their mother will use .

the females need some serious remodeling of their bodies because honestly they are horrible. it is an inmersion breaker having a female druid being able to run so fast with that morbid obesity . is not cool because it is an illness and no is not healthy nor normal for a human to be that way . and while at it, same as above add at least one face preset that dont look like a female ogre. and same with the hairstyles

hair color in wardrobe is also a must. when i created my druid i didn’t realize hair color affects color of forms.

the males look like clumsy linebackers and move that way as wolf and bear as well. thats not fine. d2 they transform and use all their limbs (like they’ve shapeshifted into an animal) lol. they run around on two legs looking clumsy and ridiculous now. The males break lore in my opinion and aren’t fine by me.
As I’ve said before I prefer a more celtic druid like they had in d2.
Also Ima harp on the movement. After transforming into an animal you move around basically the same as you do when your human… and that seems ridiculous to me when they at least had some animalistic movent in D2.

i would have prefered they had kept the D2 druid models. they were awesome . it seems like they wanted the druid to look like modern americans lol jk

As a modern American, who is perhaps surprisingly not actually overweight and couldn’t give a fork about “woke” body positivity nonsense (which this druid is not imo), I really like the big, burly male Druid.

It breaks with traditional/generic druid fantasy archetypes and I’m really digging it.

The big, stocky druid concept art is the reason we even get druids in d4. The devs said they weren’t gonna have druid originally but changed their mind after seeing a piece of concept art.

Be grateful.

can we make a blue bear?

I’m loving the druid aesthetic, and the class design in general. Still fits with the Celtic druid theme perfectly well imo. Also works with a kind of Polynesian vibe with the right character customisation options.

OP has a point about the shapeshifts though. Would like more animalistic movement in those forms.

You can make a blue bear! Or a red bear. Even a green wolf. Just make sure you are happy with it because you can’t change it as of now.

Add hair color to appearance tab of wardrobe

Mine was brown, and I didn’t know I could have other colors until max level when I saw another druid with white fur.

I didn’t know what determined it. I thought it was probably skin color because I had black hair, brown skin. But had I known I could make a strange colored bear I’d have done that.

Sadly, I can’t test the colors anymore now that the beta is over. And I can’t find any screenshots of bears other than black, brown, white or reddish. I really wonder how the blue / green would look to see if it’s something I’d play.

I also think it’s dumb we can change tattoos, but can’t change hair color… but that’s a whole other issue.

there was a reddit post with every single hair color. I couldn’t believe it. i played the entire time and it never occurred to me. i still had enough time to log on and create a few new druid characters and try it. sure enough it worked.

Agreed.

Also, a fan of Celtic myth here. In Irish myth the deity/figure The Dagda is portrayed as a big burly dude with a club, if I’m not mistaken. Perfect for for that kinda aesthetic.

People often have particular ideas from modern movies and games about what “Celtic” means or should look like but it’s not always historically or lore accurate.

Here it is. Realized it when I went with a viking look with a red beard because of my norwegian heritage and turned into a red bear.

Yeh, the hair changes the color of the animal form hair

Also to OP. Druids are descended from barbarians which is the cause for the linebacker build.

nice, thanks. hard to see the true color in the snow, but I think I like the blue after all. The green looks pukey, though. I guess I’ll have blue hair! Red looks kind of nice too. Though, I initially wanted black fur.

I really hope Blizzard let’s us customize hair in the wardrobe eventually. But, I can probably start blue and feel happy until they add it.

Yeh, I kinda wish they had it like the worgen in WoW. I think they’ve also made it so you can see the beast forms for druids in there too, but I can’t remember if that’s just at the barber or at character creation. Just click on bear/wolf form in the character creation and see what it looks like with your choice of hair color.

I feel like if druids can shapeshift at will then they are probably applying this to their “human” form as well. That and they are pretty much half bear as it is regardless.

That said, some control over their body type would be nice

Yeah, this would be a great addition. I guess I’ll have white hair at the start, heh

Yea no. not grateful. not buying the game at all with big stocky druids. Don’t know why you would want to break from the traditional druid mythos as thats what a druid is. Its just not a druid any more lol and theres no point. And that doesn’t adress the animal movement that looks terrible and is just bad design.

I don’t think we’re playing as the dagda lol.

Diablo has its own lore, which does not involve Celts. Even so, you get a nature tie, which does fit most concepts of druid in most fantasy presentations.
