Wouldnt it be nice if the game was relaunched with all the systems fixed with more content and less fluff.
Don’t get me wrong, I will sit and repeat the same actions over and over for hours on end. But almost all the quests in this game are non engaging and have no weight to them. Quantity over quality is not always a good thing. Yes D4 has hundreds, maybe even thousands of hours of content, but at the cost of fun. Unless you are a masochist, or a sadistic developer.
I think it would be great if Blizzard owned their mistakes with Diablo 4, and made good on the LP and the franchise as a whole.
We need more content with substance and a lot less of the fluff content.
It doesn’t need to be relaunched. They can iterate on it and fix it that way.
I know everyone loves the Realm Reborn story, but they forget it was an gigantic gamble at the time. 1.0 failed so spectacularly, that they only had two choices. Scrap it and move on at a huge loss, or gamble a complete rebuild and relaunch. It was unprecedented in gaming. It was a one and a million shot, not a blue print to right the ship on other games.
Had it failed, it probably could have tanked Square.
Diablo isn’t anywhere near that level of failure, not matter what whiny forum babies would have you believe. They can fix it through expansions and seasons.
This isn’t an MMORPG that failed miserably, this is an ARPG that failed miserably. Think of it like Wolcen, assuming anyone here ever played that game, instead of comparing it to FFXIV. Now FFXIV had the fundamentals completely wrong, had a subscription fee, a time gated exp bar, and other horrible mechanics. D4 at least has the foundation, they just need more endgame content and to rework various aspects of the game. In other words wait a year, expansion will be out, and you can see for yourself if it’s up to your standards.
Completely agree with you. It doesn’t do anything the competition doesn’t do already, if anything it does less than the competition out there. They’re trying to play catchup, and trying to recreate the wheel as well. Unfortunately this will take considerable time. At least we know they’re working on the game though, albeit at a snails pace.
I personally think one of their biggest mistakes was releasing seasons a month after launch, and then having no breaks in between seasons, especially without a PTR. They’ve pigeon holed themselves into only releasing major and minor content every 3 months. Even the simple things could easily be implemented mid-season, but they’d rather wait and lump it all together where more bugs will arise due to hardly any testing. They’ve essentially been shooting themselves in the foot every season, and will continue to do so.
I’ll give them credit, they are trying at least. You can tell some are quite passionate about the game during the live streams, others look like they are overworked and need a month’s worth of sleep though. We’ll see what Season 4 brings, since I get the feeling S3 won’t add much except leaderboards and a new seasonal mechanic.
D4’s shortcomings are much closer to No Man’s Sky’s than FFXIV’s.
It has a decent core. But they overpromised and undedelivered. (“Play your way”, “a lot of endgame content”, “infinite build options” etc)
The team behind no man’s sky did similar mistake when the announced the endless procedural multiplayer world. Personally seeing how much No Man’s sky evolved in the last decade or so with the small team it had, i have high expectations for D4 in the future. Of course it doesnt excuse the way it launched, but still…
I doubt you’ll be happy when the expansion comes out. Mainly because it sounds like your issues with the game are not “fixable” in the traditional sense. For instance, endgame content requests on the forums are generally meant as post 100 content, but the game as it stands is designed to not have any post 100 content, see AoZ for examples of why it won’t work. Someone f you mean they need to add post 100 content then they will have no choice but to basically do a FFIV for it to work. Sure they can slap something on but it like AoZ it’ll feel disjointed and have no real progression purpose without boosting max item levels dramatically, if that’s even enough to matter anyway.
Oh I know the game won’t be up to snuff when the expansion hits, I just hope it has more of a foundation then it currently does to add onto. I’m hopeful but skeptical at the same time. I don’t expect much therefor I won’t be disappointed, but hopeful they’ll at least deliver what they’ve promised they’ve been working on so far. Endgame content will be trickled in I have no doubt about that. They just need to find something worthy of being endgame content with an actual purpose, that’s engaging and fun. I don’t expect this to happen for a year at minimum, 2 years realistically.
I’ll still play the game through the seasons don’t get me wrong. I actually enjoyed Season 2 more so then launch and S1, but the game still needs a lot of work. As I’ve said though I know they’re working on it, the issue is just the timeframe. Plenty of games to keep me occupied between seasons though.
I very much disliked S1. I spent so many hours in pre-season playing various classes and builds. When I say so many, I mean I took 2 weeks off of work to play. S1 however… despised it. I had to ignore the seasonal content just to keep playing. It was kind of absurd to me that S1 was so boring. I was talking with my buddies and pointed out that S1 is like a first impression on a date. You can’t show up looking like a slob, farting all over the place and expect a second date.
I’m kind of hoping they do a FFIV fix and make the endgame progression clearer or… preferably after max level. I mean, I like the game as it is from a progression style -finite progression- and wish they had more content within it. But I also kind of hate that what they did is too unique and poorly conveyed within the genre.
I wish I was better at ignoring stuff but I always feel inclined to try and change the misconceptions about endgame, even though it’s not my job and really has no impact on me. I know it’s a me problem, I just keep thinking that if I can explain things well enough -since Blizzard won’t- then people might not feel ripped off or whatever and invariably I start getting annoyed both from a conflict perspective and wondering how people can’t see it like I do.
Don’t get me wrong, there are definitely things that need improvement and I would thoroughly enjoy more variety in the content. I’ve got designs on systems that would be fun to implement. The forums just seem to be content raging at the wind. I posted something that I felt would be a nice class concept for the game by essentially gamifying the things I like about playing ARPGs. I’m pretty sure it for less than 10 views and 0 comments. I posted here asking what people want to see change with affixes. That post had I think 1 person reply and we had a nice conversation, he gave me some things to think about even. But I get so many replies to anything I post that can be considered as supportive of D4. LOL. I don’t know. I gotta get better at ignoring this forum.
I personally wish they would just rebrand it into something like “World of Diablo”. The Diablo games aren’t mere dungeon crawlers anymore. I want loads and loads of social content, player cities, and the classic diablo-style combat and random generated statistical loot.
I’m sorry but this is simply not true. If you keep (via hand stimulation) polishing a terd all day, it will eventually just become a smear on your palms and otherwise smattering bits all around you.
Exactly, the amount of changes they would have to make for D4 being a competitive ARPG is to massive, they shoud just create D5 and move on. People already moved on.
