Devs! Offline please!

Nothing is nore frustrating when trying to run a dungeon twice, and getting booted both times due to server issues.

Come on dev’s, give this to us already.

You’re not going to get an offline mode. Even single player games have started being online only.

It’s best for everyone, as it cuts down on cheating, prevents unauthorized modding of their product and let’s them retain more control.

You make my request sound unreasonable.

There are reasons for both arguments.

My counter argument is I sincerely dont give a flying F about any sort of online play. So the cheating online may apply to you, but it does not apply to me.

Think about when this game becomes EOL. What then? We completely lose access to this game.

That’s not true. For one, offline players do not need to worry or care about cheating. For another, it can be designed in such a way so that offline and online characters never mix. The pain of forced-online affects EVERYONE, whereas the worries about cheating only affect people who care about PvP (a minority).

No, he totally doesn’t get it. He understands what he wants but doesn’t understand why he’s not getting it.

It’s simple really. You think of it as a video game. Companies consider it intellectual property, where more control is better.

Again, it’s not gonna happen and it’s gonna happen less and less as time goes by.

How does it affect you negatively? Most games will be online going forward and it’s not as simple as flipping a switch to make an offline mode for an online game either.

You’d still need an online connection for Battle.net regardless.

Where is your local stuff stored? Your hard drive? Not gonna happen anymore. So again, you’ll need online for that too.

This argument fits everything you are saying as well.

Yes

What?

I cannot play a game I paid for because internet issues, server issues, the devs just saying F-U and not letting me on.

This is a one-time check not a constant.

Yes

Then it is not local

Don’t worry, when Platinum and Battle Pass sales tank things will change.

Look, it’s not gonna happen. You could pay them a million dollars in cash and it’s still not gonna happen.

You think of this as a video game. It’s not. It’s copyrighted intellectual property.

Why do you think everything copyrighted from books, movies, music, games and so on is going online? Better and more control over their property.

You completely ignore those facts. I’m acknowledging that it would be cool to have an offline mode and at the same time I realize I have a better chance at winning the Powerball 3 times in a row.

They also don’t just add an offline mode, if they even wanted to. Which they don’t.

Just to emphasize here, you don’t even own the game technically. You own the disc and the box it came in, if you purchased it online you’re even worse off.

You purchase a key technically to access the content. That’s why you don’t get a refund either if you permanently get banned from the game.

This feels like the time when video games almost died, entirety. They started making crap games, as a result, consumers lost faith in the industry. Those woth reliable internet connections have forgotten what ots lile without internet. Any number of things can caise the internet swrvice to crash. Solar flare, cut cable, poor wire maintenance, etc.

Licenses have been around for a while. They have always owned their IP. Its what prevents you and me from selling the game as our own.
Companies have always been trying ways to prevent piracy…its never stopped anyone. People can always find ways around this. Only exception is playing on locked down operating systems(xbox/ps). Even then, AI is about to change that.

Absolutely nothing is going to change the current norm, it will just get much more tightly controlled as time goes by.

Here’s the thing, if you could play offline, piracy would be running rampant again on triple A games.

You guys have got to let this weird pipe dream go.

For once I am with Neller on this.
I remember when StarCraft had bootleg copies sold with key crackers. Non issue these days, but it was a thing. Same with every console back in the 90s and the Nintendo game boy. You could crack your PlayStation and get a chip installed play any game that was ripped to disk.
Offline mode- Diablo 3- go on console- Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo switch (doesn’t matter which one), go look at the ladders- hacked gear everywhere. You open your game to randoms, look at their gear, 9/10 it’s a modder with hacked gear. Makes all that grinding for primals seem worthless now don’t it? (Looks at primal legendary impale build).

So while YOU and some others want an offline mode, you’re not looking at the issues that have plagued every game with offline mode.

“Oh but it should never be made for perma online” world of Warcraft would like a word. That’s perma online. It’s also moderated, sure there’s hacked servers these days, however WoW is one of blizzards largest IPS next to StarCraft and Diablo. If D4 is going the WoW route, they have an investment to maintain and protect.

Ok, but can they at least double or quadruple the servers they have instead of this laggy queue nonsense?

And that’s probably not even close to half of all the reasons not to do it.

A lot of games also have some sort of account you log into these days, even if they’re not online games.

Indeed. Iirc for inquisitor Martyr on PlayStation I have to sign in on a Neocore acct. been a fair while since I fired up the ps4 to do anything other than charge my headphones

Half, nah definitely not even close to 1/10th the reasons.

Valid points for all I guess … But it’s true the more we advance to the future the more connected everything will be whether we like it or not … for those peeps wanting an offline mode due to lag, are you connected wirelessly-if so try connecting your device to the router with an Ethernet cable it will improve your connection speed alot…also be aware if you have a slow internet connection and there are other people on your home network downloading/streaming etc this will also affect you too… if you don’t have a cable you can try moving your setup closer to your router especially if it’s far away(I highly advise NOT to MOVE your ROUTER!) also I’ve noticed when playing in a Party whoever is party leader depending on where they are based can also cause lag for yourself - as solo I get no lag(based in EU) as for login issues/disconnects and servers being down that’s probably an issue on Blizz’s end and I’m 100% sure Dev’s and support team have a fire under them at the moment making sure things run smoothly(I’ve had login and disconnect issues too but it’s always be resolved in about 2hrs max-which is record speed for IT support-believe me on this) as for the suites they’re probably on a yacht somewhere drinking martini’s😂 — I hope some tips will help you guys with the lag issues… anyways at the end of the day before you bought the game I’m sure you saw it stating it was Online play only and if you didn’t that sucks I’m afraid but you should ALWAYS read prerequisites for any product before you buy it…this true for anything including the soap you use (ie don’t use if you are allergic to etc…)

Why does everyone use WoW as an example? This was a wholly seperate game that used Warcraft lore. It wasnt a sequel
.

Because WoW is online only, and cannot be run offline. It’s also one of the first games they made online only. D4 is very close to wow in that regard, plus world size and possible expansions.

Yes, thats understood.

What I am getting at is there was not a standard or expectation for WoW. It was new. With Diablo, there are expectations because it comes from a lineage. Players expect top down view, monster battles, grinding for gear, etc. Offline is in that bucket for me. This is not a new game.

They should have created a whole new game, based on Diablo lore.
