Devs are lost with Diablo 4``

So I logged in, first time in weeks to try the gauntlet. I can see how it could be fun somewhat. But long term, doubtful April 16th is a long ways away.

So I tried to search many of the folks in the top 1000, MOST do not want us too see their builds, which is understood. But the Devs on the Fire Chat said it would be awesome. PRIVATE ACCOUNTS galore. Many from China.

Nearly everyone has the Shako, many of the Barbs have the Grandfather and everyone is level 100.

These fools at the game, need to address this. The race to 100 Level should not be so easy to obtain. In fact, getting to level 100 in Diablo 2, I am sure many of you did not accomplish this.

I do not understand how the Devs can think diluting the Uber Brands and making it easy to get to level 100.

I think this is one of the first fixes that need to be done. Make it difficult to get to Level 100. My character was level 100 weeks ago. And I am one of the few who do not have the Shako. It is insane how they have taken an item, Shako once sought by all, to make it easy as walking into Wal Mart and buying one.

They are blind I am confident in leadership with the Dev team.

so true, no point in trying to compete in gauntlets without a shako.

I did it once, then never again, even placed on the LB at the time. I’m the only one who remembers obviously, not that anyone else would care, just like they don’t with the current LB’s. 5 years from now they can brag about it on some random forum and no one’s going to care if we’re being honest. Play for your own enjoyment, or don’t play and find a different game, it’s really that simple.

Just curious what purpose would this serve? To keep you in the game longer doing the same exact thing you’ve been doing to reach 100 even though it takes you longer? So if it takes you 2 hours to shovel snow from your driveway, but you could prolong it to 10 hours, would you? Nothing changes in your process, you just move slower. Doesn’t make much sense to me, but to each their own I guess.

It’s just more copy/paste content. Re-used map, re-used monsters and bosses, re-used concepts, re-used assets through and through, AND it had to be delayed. Blizzard is on track for taking the 100% laziest route with every change/addition/season/release so far with Diablo IV. The game is always exactly the same, save for a few number changes and some re-skinned powers that again, already existed to begin with, but have a new color and damage amount rolled into an aspect or a ring.

I still play and to some extent I still enjoy myself, so I don’t hate the game. Coming down negative on all of this sucks and I don’t mean to sound like a hater, but this is the truth about what they’re doing.

They need to suck it up and put in real work.

Sounds a lot like D2 and D3 to me. Not saying that’s acceptable, just saying it seems to be par for the course when it comes to Diablo games.

I’m at the point of wondering if D4 will be around for years at this point. There’s a lot of negativity around D4 and it’s not just here but i see it on other forums. Youtubers dropping it. Comments on those videos and a major drop in numbers on twitch. It’s different to hate on something because it’s “cool”. Take fortnite, i personally don’t care for fortnite but i don’t hate it. I’m actually impressed it’s maintained popularity this long and has an impressive crossover of characters but people will hate it because it’s the “cool” thing to do. People are hating on D4 because of the state of it. We want it to be better. It SHOULD be better. I think people will come back for S4 for the itemization providing it happens and it’s done well and then it’ll drop off again until probably the expansion and after that if nothing has changed then i guess that’s really it for D4. Sorry for the long post…

Same was said about D3 when it originally launched. Look at it now. Yes there’s divide amongst the community here about whether or not it was a good game or not, but that’s irrelevant to the amount of people who currently play it and the amount of content that was created from content creators.

Now will D4 get better? I hope so, but I can’t predict the future, all I know is it will take a considerable amount of time before it gets there. It took several years for D3 to become more popular since it’s launch, I could easily see the same happening for D4, or it could just burn in a fire, we can only wait and find out.

I don’t have a Shako. Can you please tell me how to get one as easy as buying one from WalMart? I have run quite a few Duriel runs and would say that so far, that hasn’t been as easy as buying one. Maybe you know a secret I don’t?

I think the only difference is there wasn’t much competition back then. Now everyone and their grandma is making an ARPG. I’m not saying they’ll kill D4 and im sure devs like eleventh hour games and grinding gears games just want to make a good game just like every other dev. But competition is competition but you’re definitely right. Only time will tell. Also i wanted to say no rest for the wicked looks incredible.

To be fair though with open trade and much longer “seasons” the grind felt different. You didn’t have to squeeze everything into a 2 month ladder, you could trade for things you could not find on your own, and Non-Ladder (Eternal) was lively because everything carried over. Meaning you increased your trade profits and it made Non-Ladder the place to be for PVP.

Personally I think seasons should be much longer, and content should have a bigger time and effort investment for better ideas, implementation, testing, originality, and quality. I think that would put less constant pressure on the devs, give everyone better content, give everyone more time to invest into that content, and overall make everyone happier.

Essentially D4 finds itself in a similar situation as D3 did but with more competition:

Of the current ARPGs what does each offer:

  • D4: Combat feel and art/sound direction. This is maybe a tad bit better than D3 as I felt the art was a bit all over the place in D3 but at its core why people come back to D4 is probably IP attachment and the combat feel

  • PoE: It is the game that rewards you for taking it seriously the most. If you want to REALLY invest into a game then PoE has the highest reward

  • LE: For now, at least, it rewards you the most for planning and thinking through builds. With their skill system you can design A LOT of builds to get to “end game” and thrive until the “AoZ like treadmill” section

  • Grim Dawn: Modding community here is great. The core game I think is behind now but still looking forward to the expansion.

I did about 20 duriels runs with my buddy, I am a Flame Wall/ Meteor Sorc this season, he was a Charge Barb. That dude GOT two Shakos… and if you played D2, that item is one of the Holy Grails of video game lore. But these tools at this game has made it far too common, thus hurting the game, the draw, the real reason to grind. I myself have never owned one, I played D2 forever, I MEAN FOREVER…

I did WAY more than just 20 Duriel runs. Still don’t have one. I have played D2, perhaps you forgot that it allowed for trade for such rare items.

On a side note. I am not complaining about the current drop rate, I am just stating that it isn’t as easy to get one as you claim.

I have never had a shako. I have gotten 7 characters to 100 in the last two season, working on 8th now.

You been watching the IGN videos? I normally don’t like IGN just because of their horrible reviews of games and dishonest practices, but I will admit they’ve done a good job covering this game. More of a souls-like game, which I’m not great at, but I do love to play those type of games. Not to mention it’s by Moon Studios the makers of Ori, one of my favorite games.

@Jemuzu

I actually agree with you here, I know other people would want seasons to be even shorter, but I feel at the pace they’re going you’re just begging for a horrible turn over rate within the company. Take a little more time on content, work out the bugs before it launches, give us a PTR (which we are getting at least for S4), and work on the QoL you’ve been promising us.

@Lykotic

Just going to touch up on this for the moment, I’d say D3 released in a time where not much was around for sure. For competition you had:

  • PoE - came out a year after D3’s launch
  • Titan Quest - Already 6 years old upon D3’s launch
  • Torchlight 1 - 3 years old upon D3’s launch
  • Torchlight 2 - Came out several months later from D3’s launch
  • Grim Dawn - Came out 4 years later from D3’s launch

We can throw away TQ and Torchlight. So by the time D3 started to get better, your only real options were Torchlight 2 with an amazing modding community, Grim Dawn also an amazing modding community, and PoE which constantly had updates with Leagues. Torchlight 2 was more on the decline though, obviously it wasn’t a live service game, and Grim Dawn while initially had a good start, also wasn’t live service either.

For D4’s competition realistically speaking we have PoE and LE. Yes you could lump in the F2P Lost Ark, Undecember, Torchlight, and D:Immortal, but let’s be real all of those are P2W. Grim Dawn while having a great modding community has way less active players then PoE at any given time. An expansion is coming, but it’s not here yet, just like Titan Quest 2, they’re both in the works.

D2 is about the only Diablo game to not have any competition at all upon launch or for several years afterward. It was revolutionary for its time, but people tend to forget it was one of a kind for a long time. Not that it wasn’t fun mind you or an amazing game, but I think people tend to forget how long it reigned as king by default. Also the reason we have all the similar games we have today due to its popularity at the time.

Anyone, I MEAN anyone of them gauntlet boards that let you see their character, almost all of them have the Shako and all of them if a Barb has the Grandfather. My point is, they are dumping Ubers too easily… What is the Holy Grail of this game? What is the item we want the most regardless of class. I agree, I played this game far more than my buddy and it angers me he has two shakos and I have never smelled one. I am taking each class to 100, then putting the game down, until something fresh comes, or the POE2 Beta opens up. This game has so much potential to be fun. I am sure, the lead developer is none other than STEVIE WONDER.

So your complaint is the people with the highest scores all have the best gear.

Is that it? LOL
I don’t understand.

There are millions of players. There are not millions of shakos.

the game is being diluted… too make it easy… and there is no challenge… the casual fan is left behind… especially for events like this…

I can agree with that. But it is only too easy because too many people complained that it was too hard.

Can’t please everyone.
