Devouring Blaze

So is the burning enchantment still worth it with Devouring Blaze nerfed?

if you still want to do damage its still your best option even with the nerf

I still use it. Since I didn’t utilize the immobilize multiplier, my crit damage was nerfed by only 9%.

They nerfed crit DMG overall with -17%
They nerfed crit DMG lightning with -17%
They nerfed DMG vs CC overall
They nerfed DMG from vulnerable -40%

Hard truth, the +30% DMG from burning are still one of the highest DMG boost, you can get.

Uninstalled the game as conclusion.

Even if they remove DB, you still need the enchantment for damage reduction from burning / damage to burning stats.

It’s absolutely still mandatory because even after the nerf Devouring Blaze is still by far one of the best passive talents you can get. The Firebolt enchant is also the only means of applying the Burning status effect unless you’re playing a Fire build. The reason that’s important even if Devouring Blaze was completely taken out of the equation is because one of the best defensive stats available to Sorcerers is “damage reduction from enemies that are burning.” This is even more important now that Aspect of Disobedience was also significantly nerfed.

If their goal in nerfing Devouring Blaze was to make the Firebolt enchant not mandatory they’ve utterly failed and only succeeded in destroying the Meteor build, which was already one of the most underperforming builds.

Yes
Its mandatory

Only difference is you do way less damage now. It doesn’t remove sorc reliance on firebolt enchant its just a massive nerf to dps

6/3 devouring blaze will still be stronger than anything else tho

Fire has Devouring Blaze
Ice has Hoarfrost
Lightning has ???

I think this is the new issue. Lightning doesn’t have a good talent worth dipping into to compete with Devouring Blaze.

I know this one! I use Lightning. Lightning is Hoarfrost and Devouring Blaze.
I have 6 points Hoarfrost and 3 DB (Enchanments are fire,Ice bolt)

I am in luck on one item that I was never able to get devouring blaze to drop on a good amulet, instead mine was a glass cannon 3 on the amulet… oh wait… thats right they just nerfed all defenses so I am screwed on that too!!!

Flame Shield applies a burning status effect so do many other fire talents and enchantments. You should check out some of the other abilities. This Devouring Blaze just ruined Meteor builds, unfortunately.

No, not the only, just convenient.

It’s probably not the last of DB’s nerfs.

I clearly meant the only reliable way.

Flame Shield is the only Fire skill non Fire builds use and it’s a defensive and it’s folly to use it offensively solely to trigger the burning effect. As for all the other Fire enchants, none of them can apply it effectively or reliably.

No thanks, I have no interest in playing any other build. I played a Meteor Wizard in D3 and a Meteor Sorceress before that in D2. I am not going to change now just because of this mindless nerf that they implemented without considering the wide ramifications of their stupid decisions. I’d rather just not play another class or just as soon not play the game at all. They’ve ruined it anyway.

As far as I am concerned D4 is a debacle and hands down the worst installment in the entire Diablo series, as well as one of the lowest points for Blizzard as a whole. And to think I thought they couldn’t fall any lower than they did with Immortal. D4 really is the death knell of the franchise.

You can reliably apply burning with many fire skills, without playing “fire” build. You simply choose between using enchantment slot and using skill slot (with less convenience).

The sensible way to nerf Devouring Blaze (because everyone did agree it was too valuable) without nerfing our overall damage was to buff Glass Cannon, Hoarfrost, Permafrost, and/or Ice Touch in conjunction with the that. Honestly, I would have left Devouring Blaze’s multipliers untouched and just made it for Fire damage only. Then go with the aforementioned buff to the other passives to compensate the loss of Devouring Blaze for the other elements.

Closest would be Shocking Impact which is the passive that deals damage to enemies that get stunned. Maybe they could have changed that to a simple damage multiplier as well?

Yes ofc. it will always be worth it due to how damage buckets work. Their approach to “fixing the issue” only showed that they don’t seem to understand the issue to begin with.

It depends on what changes will be applied to other skills/passives and DB itself in the future.

I start to think maybe hoarfrost is better now, with enchantment of frostbolt if you are not an ice spec. DB isn’t that great anymore and you have to bother with immobilizing the monsters.

basically this patch changes very little about sorcs except that we’re worse in almost every way

it’s lit, fam

They just had to make dB only for fire spells…
