Decent Laptop for D4 on the go

Any suggestions for a decent laptop for D4 on the go. I don’t need max graphics but just enough to play with decent fps. Budget is probably less than $2k.

I have my gaming desktop but due to my work changes, I will need to travel and obviously I can’t carry my gaming desktop.

Edit: Also planning to use with other games like PoE2

If you have 2k to blow just look for anything with a dedicated GPU, preferably current gen.

Entry level gaming laptop are generally around 600-1k ish, so you have quite a lot of room into the mid tier ones.

I’m pretty sure anything with a 4070 maybe even 4070ti can probably fit in that budget

This game isn’t very demanding so don’t worry

That’s good to know. It’s been a while since I got a Windows laptop and usually it cost like $2k above to get something decent for gaming. I guess times have changed.

My $300 walmart laptop with intergrated GPU can play diablo 4 with stable 30 FPS. Granted, I’m on the lowest settings possible and disable a lot of other background programs. So just grab anything. You should be fine.

Probably don’t need anything too crazy as others have said. On the overkill end of things I was able to score a ROG Zephyrus G15 from work years ago, so that doubles as my travel gaming setup when I do need it. Running everything max never had problem.

If anything I’ve noticed a trend of higher end computers, we’re talking 4070+ with AMD 7’s or Intel i7’s having more issues on these boards then those with medium to low end computers. Take it for what you will. They’ve also only noted it’s problems with this game specifically. Something seems to be tweaked each patch and it hits another set of players each time.

Not that you shouldn’t get a nice laptop, I’d just be careful what you get, and ask yourself it it’s worth getting that 4070+ Intel i9 for 2k+.

Thanks for the recommendations. It looks like a $700 - $1500 range is reasonable enough.

If there is one thing I would suggest is getting a large screen. Sure it a bit more of a hassle but to me worth it. Specially if it’s for on the go gaming.
I have an 18’ Asus ROG Strix.

I usually play on an ROG Ally X on low settings at 50-60 fps, i could increase the settings but havent found a need to really. So high end hardware isnt necessarily needed. I have an ROG Zephyrus Duo and hardly use it to play D4 on.

the best part about mobile gaming is that you can turn the graphics and everything to lowest setting and it wouldnt matter much, thanks to its tiny display you probably wont tell the difference anyways.

the worst part is how short battery life is, i really hate the fact that it can only last for a very short period of time…

not to mention its a dedicated gaming device, probably useless if you itt to do anything else

Id suggest the HP Vindictus or the asus nitro. when i bought my hp vindictus i was comparing with the 2 and the victus went on sale and won out my choice. as stsed above, battery life doesnt last long gaming , so have to be plugged in. or get you a battery backup power supply to extend duration of playtime a little. (still goes fairly quickly) if your on the road alot and would be in the vehicle, a car pwr converter would suffice in vehicle and plugin when inside.
Wouldsuggest getting a gamepad / mouse if you dont like plying via laptop keyboard/touchpad.

I went with Gigabyte G6X for $1100 because of the following reasons:

  • The only one with a YouTube review of an actual D4 gameplay where the FPS are above 100 fps
  • Price range was way below my original $2k budget
  • Decent enough reviews. This is one is kinda tough to evaluate. It’s like reading reviews on D4, LE, PoE, Grim Dawn. Everyone has their own favorites and pros/cons/lovers/haters.
  • I got 30 days to evaluate before I return to Amazon
  • It has 32 GB and 2x 1TB SSD NVMe

When I got the laptop and set it up:

  • The 16 inch screen was way better than I expected. Bigger space and the sharpness/contrast wasn’t as bad as what others have said
  • Audio is mid. I’m not an audiophile but even for me, the audio is really nothing to brag about lol. Not a big deal breaker because even on my gaming PC and 65 inch with 5.1, I always have my sounds set to 5% out of 100% lol
  • LCD hinge is fine. The way it was described in YouTube and some reviews made it sound as if it’s a deal breaker

Game test with Diablo 4:

  • Downloading the game via Wifi took a while. The game is massive. I think it’s about 60 GB
  • So the game won’t allow you to be logged in your Battle.net account on two PCs. The other one will be logged out
  • When the game loaded, I was surprised it used all my Graphics and Control settings from my gaming desktop which runs on a Ryzen 7800X3d and AMD 7900XTX. Of course my graphics settings are set to the maximum possible setting minus the ray tracing. I was too lazy to lower the graphics settings. I loaded the game and I was surprised the game is smooth and didn’t notice slowdown in T7, Helltide, and NM 100.
  • I have to use my Xbox controller to control the game which worked perfectly fine too.

Overall I’m happy with this purchase. Good to know I got backup machine when I’m on the road. I don’t expect to play this unplugged because of the heat and bad battery longevity with a machine like this.

Steamdeck?

512gb LCD version is on sale until 26th of september. <$350

1TB OLED version is ~$650

There’s a couple of places where FPS will drop. Helltide when hellrain happens with lots of mobs on the screen throwing out particles. In town with random players. The more players, the lower the FPS gets. Transitioning zones. Leaving town into combat areas and vice versa.

I don’t really want a handheld device. I already have my Redmagic phones already. I also intend to use the laptop beyond gaming with D4

I expect it to happen but not a big deal for me as I am used to my Xbox Series X dropping to 30 fps or less. So far in my tests earlier using my desktop’s GPU settings, I didn’t notice any slow downs. That means I can tone down the settings further if it does get slow.

The Lenovo Legion 5’s a good shot

Just becareful with really thin laptops, They tend to overheat a lot. I was using an Asus ROG and it did pretty well.
