“Data Retrieval Error
Diablo IV was unable to retrieve necessary data. Please check your network connection”

I have had this crash more than 60 times in the span of 3 days. It happens in towns, most frequently in Kyovashad, or in places with high (enough) numbers of other players.

My network is fine, everything else on my pc works fine, Diablo 2R and Diablo 3 work fine as well as all my other games.

Update: Since today, 6/6/23, Diablo IV will always crash, not allowing me to reach the character selection menu or the options. This broke the camel’s back, completely unacceptable. Please, do something about it.

Windows 10 pro
CPU intel i5-6600K
GPU Amd RX 6600XT (8GB)
RAM 16GB DDR4 2133
Game is installed on a WD Red Plus 8TB

Try this solution, it worked for me:

For systems who log into Diablo IV but crash right before the character screen is displayed. For systems who get the “Data Retrieval Error: Diablo IV was unable to retrieve necessary data. I finally fixed by intalling the game on a different SSD, maybe try that if solution above do not work
