I am retrieving this “Data Retrieval Error” on startup, and it does not make it to the title or character select. “Diablo IV was unable to retrieve necessary data. Please check your network connection.”
I am not having issues with any other games. I tried the scan and repair, restart, reboot internet, change from ethernet to wi-fi, same problem.
It originally did it when I was creating a character, about 3 times. Then when i was in town. Now I can’t even get that far.
Any tips?
Perhaps an anti-virus or firewall is blocking battle.net or D4 from launching?
Also check for Windows pending updates
No anti-virus or pending windows update, and not receiving any windows firewall pop ups. I’ve had no problems with this since beta until today.
I have the same problem it just started to happen today as well. I restarted my modem and pc tried different dns nothing seems to work. Just going to have to wait for it clear up I am afraid. Only thing I have not tried yet is my vpn.
Got the same problems. Yesterday game was running the whole day without any problem, nothing changed on networksettings, not updating any drivers.
and again the problem played the hole day without any problem and after the qualifing nothing runs and no solution from blizz
Getting the same problem. Sometimes from opening character inventory or vendor, other times from teleporting to a specific town, and seems to randomly fix itself after a period of time (around 30min to 3 hours).
It has been almost a week since I was able to get play with out this issue. Yesterday I was to play but only doing nightmares and if I were to go to town I would get that. Today I am not able get past character selection screen.
A reinstall of the game seems to have fixed the issue for me

Same problem Just started today. been fine since beta.
Now after buying the expanison last night and playing fine last night today cant stay in game without getting this crash.
Uninstall and reinstall seems to have fixed this for me…
