Data corruption for the second time

I have the game on Steam and now it’s the second time that in the middle of the game i get a data corrupted message. This and random crashes with some code in a window. Seriously, what to i need to do to fix these stupid issues?

I have no issues with nVIDIA driver (572.70) in other games, not issues with W10 updates, no issues with temps.
So, what gives?

PC is a Ryzen 5 2600
GTX 1060 6GB
16GB RAM DDR4 3066MHz
game installed on a nVME SSD WD Blue
PSU is a CORSAIR CX 450W
I play on 1366x768 (and no, it’s not a laptop)

“Open Beta has ended. The technical support forums are currently read-only.”

That’s why i posted here. Also, Open Beta for what? The released game? What a strange message.

last thread there is from 4 hours ago.

Then why the F*** i have his message and can’t post anything in there? wth?

thats indeed odd. I can normally create a thread there.

just making sure, you arent clicking on any of the stickies right? you try to post normally like youd do here?

yes. god, what a mess. I keep getting random crashes, now the forum doesn’t work. i don’t have support. serves me right for giving money to Blizzard i guess…
seriously, F this S

well, you can also send in a support ticket of course.

Anyway, as for the issue at hand - no idea why you are keep getting corrupted files, god knows im not a pc expert.

Did you fiddle around with the game files? Checked for viruses etc?
I think i read about this issue here once before… but yea, it seems to be rather rare i guess. Ill try to see if i can find something here.

So there are several reasons for file corruption.

1 - Storage Issues (Most Common)

Bad sectors on your HDD or SSD, power loss while writing/reading data, or just wear and tear of your HDD/SSD over time. No idea how old your system is, but judging by the specs, you are definitely on the lower end of the spectrum here.

2 - Software Conflicts & Bad Updates

It’s very possible the patch/update you installed was interrupted during installation, or an antivirus program messed with it (not likely), or steam/blizzard’s patching just failed to do its job. Running the scan+repair tool should help fix this issue, or the ‘check integrity of files’ for steam, or whatever it is.

However if this is a consistent problem, I’m more inclined to believe it’s your system, and not the updating itself that is causing your issue.

3 - Hardware Instability

This could be faulty RAM, overheating of the CPU or GPU, even PSU problems where it’s not giving out enough power, or worse having sudden power loss, this is harder to diagnose, as you’d have to go through some specific testing.

4 - Disk Write Failures

This could be a sign your HDD/SSD is actually failing as mentioned in #1. If it has a bad sector, wear and tear, or sudden power loss, this will cause you more issues as time progresses, not just for this game mind you, but your whole system.

I would say it’s also an issue when using an external drive and unplugging it improperly, but that doesn’t seem to be the case here.

5 - Lower Than Required Specs

If your system is failing to meet the requirements it could very well cause corruption to some degree, but this is mostly due to crashes, BSOD issues, etc.

Conclusion - I believe it’s more of a hardware issue, if at all possible, I would say if you have another SSD, to transfer the files over to that separate drive and try it again. Just to rule out it’s not your SSD at least, it very well could be another piece of hardware, but this is where I would start.

Check your computer for any memory problem.
I never had such problem. Sounds like a hardware problem.

Check the health of your SSD drives. Just remember that weird stuff can happen when everything is computer. :computer:

I actually wonder if bumping up to a 500W or 600W power supply would actually give you some extra stability in your system. 450W is kind weak.

This is 8 years old. 450W doesnt seem like enough power in 2025 for todays components.

What is your motherboard?

I did a quick guess on mb and the thing said you may need 425 to 525 W power. My guess is you dont have enough powah.

No, given his setup, 450W is perfectly fine. Assuming he’s just got the one SSD. If he had three or more, he’d want more power. That PS can handle that system fine though.

Now the PS sounds on the lower end, but you have to look at what’s drawing the most power, his CPU and GPU. Both are lower spec in this day and age.

CPU - roughly 50-65W under load depending (no over clocking)

GPU - 110-120 max under load (no overlocking)

MB, RAM, storage - ranges from about 50-100, the NVME pulls maybe 5-10W total at best

So a 550W wouldn’t hurt if he were to upgrade the system, but the 450W is plenty. Of course I say that, but if he’s trying to run the game on max settings he’s going to have issues lol.

I looked for if you’re experiencing crashes when i saw the topic title.

You’re having a lot of crashes. I would look to that as the root cause.

Corruption should be guarded against by the game, but it doesn’t surprise me repeat crashes increases your exposure to one of those causing corruption.

I hope they’ve got a backup for you and you can get the crashes under control.

If you’re keen to resolve it and want to put the software side of your system through some rigor, you could try rebuilding your system and test the game for a convincing period before you start progressively installing other things.

I would also suggest refrain from visiting anything on the internet during the rebuild other than high repute commercial / government organisations that you can’t avoid using on that device.

Keep a record and go step by step and test the game for a convincing period each time so you get some clue where the issue might be being introduced.

Event viewer shows a log of the crashes and the ID number can give you a clue. I bet its power related. The power units degrade overtime and 450w is weak. I had this exact same issue many years ago with weird stuff going on and it was power source. Changed power source and all probs solved.

Yes, my system is old but it works and i take very good care of my hardware. It’s not temperature related, 450W for my specs are fine, i don’t even reach 450W or 400W.
I play Elden Ring, Horizon Zero Dawn, RE8, RE4 and never had any issues. Mix of HIGH and MEDIUM settings.
SSD is a nVME Western Digital Blue that is like 3yo iirc, and CrystalDiskInfo doesn’t show anything bad in it.
I was thinking that maybe the nVIDIA driver 572.70 could be the problem, i was on 566.03 a few days ago, but started D4 with 572.70 installed already.

Power supply is old. Replace it and your system will be fine I think though you should just get a new system. All your stuff is old. Treat yoself to new comp.

Do a stress test and see what happens.

Given that Diablo IV has had a lot of memory related issues in the past, I would focus your efforts there. Remember, any changes or instability to the CPU with directly affect the RAM as well. So if you are Overclocking/Underclocking in any way, disable and run true stock first for stability testing.
